Don’t look now, but the Houston Rockets are unbeaten since the All-Star break. The Clippers haven’t won a game since the break. A few weeks ago it looked like the Clippers might make a playoff run, but that seems very improbable right now. Houston definitely has a shot to slip into the playoffs if they keep playing well.
The Rockets have been getting some great guard play from Kyle Lowry. The team got rid of Aaron Brooks and Lowry is now the starter. Lowry has a good grasp on the offense, and he makes good decision with the ball. Kevin Martin is the leading scorer for this team, and his consistency on the offensive end has been a huge reason why the Rockets have made a big run of late. Martin has scored at least 30 points in each of the last three games. Houston is averaging 105.5 points per game, but their defense is one of the worst in the league.
The Los Angeles Clippers made a big run about a month ago, but they have since cooled right back off. Blake Griffin is still putting up amazing numbers and throwing down some ridiculous dunks on a nightly basis, but the rest of the team isn’t pulling their weight. Eric Gordon’s injury has really held this team back. Gordon has established himself as a great scorer, and without him the last few weeks the Clippers have struggled offensively. Gordon should be back soon, but the Clippers have likely played their way out of the playoffs barring an amazing hot streak. This team is definitely improving, but they still have quite a long ways to go.
