The New Orleans Hornets wrap-up the regular season with a trip to the American Airlines Arena to square-off against the Dallas Mavericks in a possible preview of a first-round matchup in the playoffs. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. and the game will be broadcast nationally on ESPN.

New Orleans’ 90-78 loss to Utah on Monday night as a seven-point home favorite in all likelihood will mean a first round date in the playoffs with No.1 seed San Antonio. The Hornets can still pass Memphis for the seventh seed in the West, but would need a win in this game combined with two Grizzlies’ losses in their final two games. New Orleans is currently 46-35 straight-up and 39-40-2 against the spread.

Chris Paul and Carl Landry have done a pretty good job in filling the void left by the loss of David West, who went down with a season-ending knee injury in late March. Paul is averaging 16 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 9.8 assists a game and Landry is averaging 11.9 points and 4.1 rebounds. Trevor Ariza has also stepped up in West’s absence with a total of 75 points in his last five games.

Dallas has been a virtual roller-coaster ride over its past 12 games with a five-game winning streak towards the end of March followed by a four-game losing streak to start April. The Mavericks have now won three straight since then including a 98-91 overtime victory over Houston on Monday night as a 3 ½-point road favorite. They are now 56-25 SU and 43-36-2 ATS and a half game ahead of the LA Lakers for the second seed in the West.

One constant though all these ups and downs has been the play of Dirk Nowitzki. He is scoring 22.9 points a game and pulling down an average of seven rebounds. Shawn Marion is averaging 12.5 points and 6.9 rebounds and Jason Terry is adding 15.8 points a game off the bench. Jason Kidd still leads the team in assists with 8.2 a game and Tyson Chandler is the leading rebounder with 9.4.

Head-to-head, the Hornets have won two of three games SU, but stick with the Mavericks to win and cover the points this time around with the No. 2 seed still on the line.

NBA Gambling Trends:
Over is 7-1-1 in DAL last 9 Wed. games.
DAL are 2-7 ATS in their last 9 vs. NBA Southwest.
