Tonight in a non-conference match up between a couple of teams in the south the Charlotte Bobcats (13-21) host the Memphis Grizzlies (16-21). NBA Lines have the visiting Grizzlies as 2-point betting favorites in this game with a total of 192.5.
Both teams played on Saturday with the Bobcats beating the Washington Wizards 104-89 and the Grizzlies losing to the Oklahoma City Thunder 109-100.
While Memphis is 5 games under.500 they have been one of the better betting teams in the league going 22-14-1 ATS while the same cannot be said about Charlotte, as they are 15-17-2 ATS.
The Bobcats have won 2 games in a row and are 4-6 in their last 10 games and the Grizzlies are coming off a loss and are 5-5 in their last 10. The Grizzlies have lost 3 straight against the Bobcats in Charlotte.
Since Paul Silas took over head coaching duties for the Bobcats they have played a much faster paced game and now are a run and gun team. In their last 6 games, which they have won 4 of, Charlotte is almost averaging 100 ppg.
Charlotte will be without a couple of starters tonight, as SF Gerald Wallace (16.5 ppg) and C Nazr Mohammed (8 ppg 5.2 rpg) are both out with injuries. With Wallace out there will be a lot of pressure on D.J. Augustin (13.9 ppg) and Stephen Jackson (18.5 ppg) to carry the offensive load.
These 2 teams met in mid December in Memphis and the Grizzlies killed the Bobcats winning by 33 points. In that game the Bobcats shot just over 41% from the field and they committed 20 turnovers.
The Bobcats have a solid defense ranking 11th in the league in opponents’ points allowed and they will have to key on the Memphis scoring duo of Rudy Gay (21.2 ppg) and Zach Randolph (19.7 ppg). Both of these guys have been playing well and Gay is averaging 25.5 ppg in his last 4 games. These 2 combined for 47 points in their last loss to the Thunder.
If Charlotte can keep Gay and Randolph from having big games they are in good shape, as the Grizzlies do not have a lot of scoring options. O.J. Mayo is averaging 13.1 ppg and he may have to step up and help on offense in this game and play better than he did in the Oklahoma City loss where he scored 11 points on only 5/17 shooting.
The Bobcats shot almost 50% from the floor in their last win over Washington and shot an even 50% from beyond the 3-point arc. The Grizzlies cannot allow Charlotte to get open looks from deep tonight.
The Bobcats are a better team on the boards ranking 12th in the league in rebounds per game while the Grizzlies only rank 24th. However, Gerald Wallace is their leading guy on the boards averaging 8.2 rpg and Nazr Mohammed is at 5 rpg, so Tyrus Thomas (5.6 rpg) and Boris Diaw (5.4 rpg) have to hit the glass tonight with their 2 starters Out with injuries. They have to especially man up on Zach Randolph (12.7 rpg), who is averaging 4.5 offensive rebounds per game.
Charlotte is a better team now that they get out and run, but with Wallace and Mohammed out they will have troubles on the boards. On top of that the Grizzlies are a fast team that can get back on defense. Look for Zach Randolph to have a big game, as Memphis will snap their 3-game losing streak in Charlotte with a win tonight.
