Um, Cleveland? Is that you? The Cleveland Cavaliers haven’t been themselves lately, jeopardizing their hold on first overall in the NBA standings with a three-game losing streak. Antawn Jamison’s arrival via trade hasn’t translated into wins just yet. He actually went a horrific 0 for 12 in his debut against Charlotte but did rebound for 19 points and eight boards on Sunday against Orlando.
Bettors have to think the Cavs will right the ship soon; there’s just too much talent – too much LeBron James – not to. But can we confidently say that they’ll beat the 11.5-point spread tonight given their recent struggles?
The Hornets are playing better ball than most would’ve expected after Chris Paul succumbed to a knee injury. They’ve won two straight and rookie Darren Collison has filled in admirably for Paul, averaging 20.7 points per game in nine contests this month.
While New Orleans has lost seven of its last eight trips to Cleveland, it’s won three of four against the Cavs overall. Also, Cleveland has failed to beat the spread in six of its last seven games. I do expect the Cavs to win tonight – but by 12 points? I don’t think so. They’re still trying to re-establish team chemistry with Jamison in the lineup and Zydrunas Ilgauskas gone. They’ll gel enough to win but not cover.
