Miami: 47-35 SU, 43-37-2 ATS

In Boston, it’s the Big Three and Rajon Rondo. To call Kendrick Perkins an offensive afterthought would be an exaggeration of immense proportion.

But after one in a string of exasperating home losses that the Celtics had suffered in the days after the All-Star Game, Perkins hit on something in a post-game interview with baffled reporters. “It might be,” said Perkins, “that we’re just bored with the regular season.”

Matchup: HEAT vs. CELTICS

Time: Sunday 1:05 ET
Venue: American Airlines Arena, Miami
Spread: Heat -1
Over/Under: 186

Perkins took some heat for that comment, but turns out he might have been closer to the center of the target than anyone wanted to admit at the time.

Boston limped through the rest of the regular season with bizarre losses at home and on the road, but takes an almost-unbeatable 3-0 series lead over the Heat into Game 4 Sunday afternoon.

The defense that Boston brought to the table almost every night during its title run in 2008 has returned –– at least temporarily –– and if the Heat players, coaches or front office personnel have any answers, now might be a good time to share them.

Miami’s problem is that the Heat have the best player in the series . . . and not a hell of a lot else. Quentin Richardson can’t back up his tough talk, Udonis Haslem has done a slow fade, Jermaine O’Neal looks like he’d rather be anywhere else but on the court, and point guard Carlos Arroyo is outplayed by Rajon Rondo every time they are on the court together.

And don’t even bring up the spooked Michael Beasley. Online Sports Betting at Sportsbook

Boston has had great success stopping single scoring threats. The Celts kept LeBron James under wraps somewhat in the Eastern semis two years ago, and did the same thing to Kobe Bryant in The Finals.

When teams have balanced scoring (Chicago and Orlando last season) Boston’s help defense is less effective.

With Wade a one-man show, the result of this series is obvious.

Play here is Boston +1.

What is going through Dwyane Wade’s mind right now? Certainly he knows that the Heat will not regain their composure enough to win four straight games. Does he have enough mental strength to gather himself for one more game and lead his team to a victory in what may be his final game ever as a member of the Heat? If Boston gets a lead in Game 4, the Heat will likely fade into oblivion. Who leads them back? Jermaine O’Neal? Quentin Richardson?
