Your sportsbook has Phoenix as a three-point favorite.
Phoenix has been a killer lately. Not only have the Suns won eight of their past 10 outings, they’ve rewarded sportsbook bettors with an 8-2 run against the spread over the same span.
That includes a 111-102 victory over the Spurs in Game 1 of this series. A big reason for the impressive run is the Suns’ efforts at home; they are 8-1-1 on NBA odds in their last 10 games at US Airways Center.
Steve Nash was nothing short of brilliant on Monday. The two-time MVP dropped 33 points and 10 assists on the Spurs.
More importantly, he scored 17 of those points in the first quarter, setting the tone for a wild Suns attack. Jason Richardson added 27 points for Phoenix; he’s averaging 27.8 points per game in the Suns’ postseason wins this season, compared to just 14.5 in their two losses. Amare Stoudemire was also a valuable piece of the attack, racking up 23 points and 13 boards.
San Antonio took care of business in the Dallas series, but the Spurs aren’t endearing themselves to sports betting fans.
The Game 1 loss to Phoenix dropped San Antonio to just 5-4-1 in its last 10 games against the spread. Facing another game in Phoenix on Wednesday doesn’t bode well, either—the Spurs are 4-6 against the spread in their last 10 road games.
George Hill played a stinker of a game for San Antonio. He’s been a great addition to the team since coming into his own when Tony Parker was injured, but he failed to deliver in Game 1.
Hill managed just nine points on 2-9 shooting. That included an 0-5 effort from three-point land; in fact, the Spurs were just 4-19 from downtown.
Manu Ginobili led the team with 27 points and five assists, while Tim Duncan had 20 points and 11 rebounds. Parker came off the bench to score 26 points.
The Suns, and Nash in particular, mean business this year. They’re determined to finally get a title, and they proved it with a fine effort in Game 1.
Richardson should again deliver for Phoenix, which will take a 2-0 series lead.
