No one said it would be easy.

Actually, that’s not true. In fact, just about everyone said it would be easy. For the Bulls, anyway, as Chicago had – on paper, anyway – the weakest opponents of any playoff team in Rounds 1 and 2. There were a few raised eyebrows when the Pacers, who entered the playoffs with 25 fewer regular-season wins than the Bulls’ 62, pushed Chicago in the first round. Now Atlanta has confounded everyone by winning two of the first four against the Bulls and melting things down to a best-of-three.

Is this all about the Bulls’ lack of consistency, or is something else at play here? The NBA playoffs are usually all about talent. Stars get the calls, underdogs rarely pull upsets and the league office usually gets the TV matchups that it wants. But the Spurs went out quietly in the first round, the Lakers’ summer has already started, the Celtics are on the brink, and now the Hawks have given the Bulls an ice cream headache.

One troubling stat for the Bulls – by necessity or design, Derrick Rose has had to assume a greater share of the Chicago offense as this series has progressed. After scoring 24 and 25 in Games 1 and 2, Rose has gone off for 44 (Game 3) and 34 (Game 4). Even more problematic is the fact that Rose was on the court for nearly 45 of 48 minutes in Atlanta’s stunning Game 4 victory that evened the series at 2-2.

NBA Trends:

ATL are 2-6 ATS in their last 8 Tue. games.
Under is 14-6 in ATL last 20 overall.
ATL are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games overall.
CHI are 3-8 ATS in their last 11 home games.
CHI are 20-8 ATS in their last 28 Tue. games.

BEST BET: The Hawks know the formula for winning: Get three players to score in the 20s, shoot over 45 percent from the field and get Josh Smith to stop shooting 3-pointers.

Doing it on the road is much more difficult, though, and the Hawks haven’t yet shown that they can do it twice in a row. If you’re like the rest of the betting public and can’t figure out either of these teams, maybe take a look at the over (179).

Three of the four games in this series have eclipsed the number.
