After a particularly tough Heat loss late in the regular season, a bitter Dwyane Wade went off in the locker room, saying “Everyone should be happy now.”

It was basically Wade acknowledging that America hasn’t exactly embraced the arrogance that Wade, LeBron James and Chris Bosh had brought to the table. Winning, they felt, would bring love despite the street swagger. Well, not quite.

Wade is living in some alternate universe if he feels that Dallas wasn’t motivated by Wade and James rubbing Maverick nose in their stink when they led by 15 with 6 to go in Game 2. In fact, had the tables been reversed Wade would have been the first to throw it back in his opponents’ faces.

NBA fans – and Wade is right about this – are by and large rooting against the Heat, which now have coughed up home-court advantage and now face the daunting task of three consecutive games in Dallas. And somewhere in the midst of Dallas’s late run that stole Game 2, maybe, just maybe, the Heat came to realize several things:

***Dirk Nowitzki’s injured finger apparently is not all that bad.

***When the Heat have to think, they have problems. Their offense down the stretch consisted of one-on-one playground style as everyone not named Wade and James was excluded, and defensively they allowed the Mavs to get off shots wherever and whenever they needed.

***Perhaps Dallas is just a better team that any of us gave them credit for. After Wade and James, Dallas may have the next-best 6 or 7 players. You think the Heat wouldn’t love to have J.J. Barea starting at the point for them?

For the Heat, it’s soul-searching time for a team that might not have a soul.

NBA Trends:

MIA are 9-3 ATS in their last 12 road games.
Over is 5-2-1 in MIA last 8 vs. NBA Southwest.
DAL are 9-2-2 ATS in their last 13 Sun. games.
DAL are 9-2 ATS in their last 11 home games.
DAL are 9-3 ATS in their last 12 vs. NBA Southeast.
Road team is 20-8-1 ATS in the last 29 meetings.
MIA are 7-15-1 ATS in the last 23 meetings.

BEST BET: The Heat have not fared well in the first road games of series. They squeaked by Philadelphia in the opening series and then were trashed in Boston by 16 and crushed in Chicago by 21 before turning things around. Dallas -2.5 is the play here.
