The Denver Nuggets will be looking to bounce back from a tough road loss to Philadelphia on Sunday with a win over the New Jersey Nets. Tonight’s game from the Prudential Center in Newark tips-off at 7 p.m. (ET) and will be broadcast on NBA TV.

Denver’s recent four-game winning streak, including three straight on the road, was snapped with a 110-99 loss to the 76ers as a 1 ½-point road underdog. The loss dropped the Nuggets to 28-19 straight-up on the year and 20-24-3 against the spread. They trail Oklahoma City in the Northwest Division by two-games and are in sixth-place in the Western Conference.

The main cloud hanging over this team this whole season has been the future of its biggest star; Carmelo Anthony. For now, he remains a Nugget and leads the team in points with an average of 23.6 per game and rebounds with an average of 7.9.Chauncey Billips is the team’s second leading scorer with 16.3 points per game and leads in assists with an average of 5.2.

Denver continues to lead the league in points-per-game with 107.7, but is ranked 23rd in points allowed; giving up an average of 104.4. The Nuggets are shooting 46.9 percent from the field and 39.6 percent from three-point range which is the second-best percentage in the NBA. They are pulling down an average of 41.2 rebounds a game, while their opposition is averaging 42.2, placing them in the middle of the pack in this category.

New Jersey was reportedly close to trading for Anthony a few weeks back, but the deal never materialized. Instead the Nets remain one of the worst teams in the Eastern Conference with an overall record of 14-34 SU (23-25 ATS) and are in 12th-place; seven games out of the eighth and final playoff spot. They are 4-6 SU in their last 10 games including a 124-92 loss to Indiana on Friday night as a six-point road underdog and a 91-81 loss to Milwaukee the following night as a 6 ½-point road dog.

Brook Lopez is the team’s leading scorer with an average of 19.5 points per game, but the real question mark for this game is the health of Devin Harris, who is the team’s second leading scorer with 15.5 points and leads the team in assists with 7.6. He is currently listed as questionable for tonight’s game with a calf injury.

Scoring has been an issue for New Jersey this season regardless of who has been in the lineup as it is ranked second-to-last in the league with an average of just 92.4 points per game. Defensively, the Nets are giving up an average of 98.5 points which is the third worst point differential in the NBA. They are ranked in the bottom third of the league in rebounds with an average of 40.6 a game.

Trends

Denver is 3-2 ATS in its last five games on the road and 4-1 ATS in its last five games overall. The total has gone ‘over’ in its last five games.
New Jersey is 4-1 ATS in its last five home games and 3-3 ATS in its last six games overall. The total has stayed ‘under’ in four of its last six games.

Head-to-head, the Nuggets have won seven of the last eight games SU, including victories in the last four meetings. They are 6-2 ATS during this time. Earlier this season Denver had to squeeze-out a 107-103 win over New Jersey as a 10-point home favorite. The total went ‘over’ the 206 ½-point line. The total has gone ‘over’ in four of the last six meetings.

The Nuggets do not want to go back to Denver with back-to-back losses to teams with losing records so look for them to put this game away early to win and cover the points.

The Pick: Denver 97-82
