The Charlotte Bobcats will try to extend their winning streak to five games with a victory over the Boston Celtics this Friday night at the TD Garden in Boston. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on NBA League Pass.

Charlotte has suddenly found new life in the New Year with four straight wins after losing to Miami 96-82 as a 7 ½-point road underdog on Jan.3. The Bobcats are coming off their most impressive win of their recent run; a 96-91 victory over Chicago as a three-point home underdog.

This win moved their record to 15-21 straight-up and evened their mark against the spread to 17-17-2. Charlotte is still a distant fourth in the Southeast Division and a full 13 games behind Miami, but has moved into the eighth spot in the Eastern Conference standings.

The resurgence has been led by Stephen Jackson and D.J Augustin. Jackson leads the team in scoring with 18.7 points per game, while Augustin is averaging 14.2 points and a team-high 6.3 assists. Gerald Wallace is second on the team in scoring with 16.4 points per game and Charlotte’s leading rebounder with 8.1 per game.

The Bobcats are averaging 93.2 points per game on the season which rank them near the bottom of the league, but have averaged 101 points over the last four games. They are giving up an average of 96.8 points per game, but have held their opponents to just 91.5 points over the same stretch.

Boston ended a two-game slide with a welcomed visit from Sacramento this past Wednesday night. The Celtic’s clobbered the Kings 119-95 as a 13-point home favorite after losing to Houston 108-102 as a nine-point home favorite on Monday and dropping a 90-79 decision to Chicago as a two-point road underdog last Saturday.

The Celtics are currently 29-9 SU but just 19-18-1 ATS. They lead New York by seven games in the Atlantic Division and remain neck-and-neck with Miami for the top spot in the East. The win over the Kings moved them to 6-4 SU in their last 10 games.

Boston is hoping to have Kevin Garnett back for this game after missing the past few weeks with a calf injury. He is currently listed as day-to-day. They will have their usual trio of Paul Pierce, Ray Allen, and Rajon Rondo ready to go. Pierce leads the team in scoring with 19.2 points and is averaging 5.2 rebounds and 3.5 assists. Rondo remains the NBA leader in assists with 13.4 per game and Allen is averaging 17.5 points.

The Celtics are ranked No.17 in the league in scoring with an average of 99.5 points per game, but continue to lead the league in points allowed; giving up an average of just 91.9. They also lead in field goal percentage at 50.2 and are third from three-point range at 39 percent. One area where Boston continues to struggle is rebounds. It is currently ranked dead-last in the league with an average of just 38.5 per game.

Trends

Charlotte is 7-9 ATS on the road this season but 5-2 ATS in its last seven games overall. The total has gone ‘over’ in three of its last four games.
Boston is 2-4 ATS in its last six home games and 3-6 ATS in its last nine games overall. The total has gone ‘over’ in four of its last five games.
Head-to-head, the Celtics have won eight out of the last nine games SU and is 4-0 ATS in the last four. Earlier this season, Boston crushed the Bobcats 93-62 on the road as a 7 ½-point favorite with the total staying ‘under’ the 186 point line. The total has stayed ‘under’ in six of the last 10 meetings.

Despite the recent trends in this series, Charlotte definitely brings some momentum into this game and should be able to keep it closer than nine points against a Boston team that has struggled a bit playing all four quarters lately.

The Pick: Charlotte +9
