Boston Celtics vs. Chicago Bulls Preview
The Bulls (23-12) have lost 2 in a row, but are 7-3 in their last 10 games and they will be hosting a hot Boston (28-7) squad tonight that has win 4 straight and has the best record in the Eastern Conference. NBA lines have the Bulls as 2-point favorites in this game with a total of 188.
Both teams played on Friday night with different results, as the Celtics had no problem beating the Toronto Raptors 122-102 while the Bulls lost to the Philadelphia 76ers 105-99.
This season the Celtics are 18-16-1 ATS and the Bulls are 19-15-1 ATS.
The Bulls have the 2nd best home record in the East (15-3) while the Celtics have the 2nd best road record (12-5).
The Bulls have lost 2 straight and they have both been against teams that are under .500. The main reason for those losses was their poor defense. They allowed the Nets to shoot almost 50% from the field in a loss and Wednesday and in last night’s loss the 76ers shot lights out shooting 56.3% from the field. The Bulls have already lost to the Celtics twice this season, both in Boston, and in those games the Celtics averaged 52.1% shooting and 107 ppg.
Both teams will be without some big guns tonight, as Kevin Garnett is Out for the Celtics and Joakim Noah is Out for the Bulls. The loss of Noah may hurt more, as he is the big man on the board for Chicago averaging 11.7 rebounds per game.
One key match up in this game is at the PG position between Boston’s Rajon Rondo (10.6 ppg 13.7 assists per game) and Chicago’s Derrick Rose (23.9 ppg 8.3 assists per game). Rose has to not only score, but also be careful with the rock, as in the 2 games against Boston this season he has averaged 5 turnovers per game.
Chicago’s PF Carlos Boozer (20.3 ppg 10.1 rpg) is another key in this game, as he has to score and also hit the boards with Bulls’ C Kurt Thomas. These 2 will have to keep Shaq from getting easy buckets and dominating the glass. Chicago lacks a true C and the Diesel will be tough to handle.
Defense is the key for the Bulls and after last night’s loss to Philadelphia Rose said. “When you’re not playing defense, it’s going to haunt you.” They seem to play much better D in their house, as in their last 11 games at the United Center they have only allowed opponents to shoot 40% from the floor. If that happens again tonight they have a great chance to win.
The Celtics have the stingiest defense in the league giving up the fewest points per game (91.4 ppg). They have played Boozer especially tough, as he is only averaging 15 ppg in his last 13 games against them.
The Bulls have to play great perimeter defense and now allow Paul Pierce (19 ppg) and especially Ray Allen (17.5 ppg) to bomb away from deep. Allen has killed the Bulls on their floor, as in his last 14 games in Chicago he has averaged 25 ppg and has shot a scorching 47.4% from 3-point land.
While the Bulls are at home tonight they will have problems defending all the scoring options the Celtics have. Rondo will run around Rose and be able to score and dish out to the open shooters and the Boston D will not allow the Bulls to run up the score. This game will not be a blowout, but the Celtics will win and push their winning-streak to 5.
