Charlotte travels to the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia to face the 76er’s tonight for game three of their four game regular season series. Each team has already come away with a close victory at home. Back on November 18th the Sixers hung on for a two point 86-84 win and on December 5th in Philadelphia and the Bobcats squeaked out a 106-105 win back in Charlotte.

After losing five games in a row, Philadelphia snapped their losing streak with a 114-101 win over the rapidly fading Toronto Raptors on Sunday night. The 76ers finally had turned in a solid second half scoring 34 points in the third to take a 14 point lead into the 4th quarter. They then shot 63% from the field in the fourth to seal the win. Thaddeus Young led the way for Philly with a career high 32 points and Jrue Holiday added 21 points, seven rebounds, and six assists in another strong outing for the rookie guard. Against the Pacers last night it was back to their old ways as they fell behind by seven in the third quarter and could not close the gap in the 96-107 loss. Philadelphia is now 23-40 on the season, 8 ½ games behind Charlotte. They are currently in 10th place in the Eastern Conference and basically on life support for making the postseason.

Charlotte started the New Year on a tear, winning nine out of 10 games but has been unable to sustain their earlier success over the past several weeks. They are 5-5 in their last 10 games and at 31-31 are currently ½ game in front of Chicago (31-32) for the eighth and final playoff spot in the conference. They have won their last three games including a 98-83 pasting of the Los Angeles Lakers at home on Friday night. In that game Gerald Wallace led the team with 17 points and 10 rebounds and Stephen Jackson scored a team high 21 points in the win. They built a six point lead at the half and never trailed from there. Last night at home against the Heat, they pounded out an 83-78 win after falling behind by nine at the half. Through 62 games Jackson is their leading scorer, averaging 20.7 points per game and Wallace is averaging 18.5 points and leads the team in rebounds with 10.5.

The main thing working against the Bobcats in tonight’s game is the location. They are 23-8 at home, but a dreadful 8-23 on the road. Philadelphia has enough talent to exploit this weakness and should be able to come away with another close win at home.
