Atlanta Hawks vs. Houston Rockets Preview

With only 6 games left in the regular season this is a must win game for the Rockets (40-36), as they are currently out of the playoff picture 3 games behind the Grizzlies for the 8th spot in the West while the Hawks are, pretty much, assured the 5th seed in the playoffs in the East.

In their last games the Hawks beat the Boston Celtics 88-83 and the Rockets beat the San Antonio Spurs 119-114 in OT.

The Rockets are 23-14 at home this season and 7-3 in their last 10 games and the Hawks are 20-17 on the road and 6-4 in their last 10 games.

In their only meeting this season the Rockets beat the Hawks in Atlanta 112-106.

The Rockets have been a solid team to wager on this season at 41-33-2 ATS while the Hawks are only 36-40 ATS.

Will the Hawks be motivated for this game? That is the big question since their playoff position is pretty set, but the Rockets have to catch fire at the end of the season and have some help just to make the post season.

The Rockets are the 3rd highest scoring team in the league and in 4 of their last 5 games they have scored at least 110 points. Kevin Martin (23.3 ppg), Luis Scola (18.4 ppg), and Kyle Lowry (13.5 ppg) have been playing well and they will have to score in this game since the Rockets’ defense only ranks 22nd in the league in opponents’ points allowed. NBA Betting

The Hawks are led by their defense, which ranks 7th in the league in opponents points allowed. One player the Rockets have to key on is C Al Horford (15.7 ppg 9.6 rpg), who had 16 points and 15 boards in the win over the Celtics. Joe Johnson (18.5 ppg) and Josh Smith (16.8 ppg) have to be the guys to score for the Hawks and this is especially the case if their defense can’t keep the Rockets from lighting up the scoreboard.

Horford is also key on the boards and he will need help on the glass in this game, as the Rockets rank 7th in the league in rebounds per game while the Hawks only ranks 26th.

The Rockets are in desperate need of a win and they will get it in this game. They will score on the legit Atlanta defense and they will win the battle of the boards, as they will win, cover the spread, and keep their faint playoff hopes alive.

Betting Trends

Atlanta is 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games and has an Under record of 4-0 in their last 4 games and Houston is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 home and has an Over record of 9-4 in their last 13 home games.

Pick: Rockets
