Race: Finger Lakes 355 at the Glenn
Date: Sunday, Aug.12, 2012
Time: 12:00 p.m. (ET)
Broadcast: ESPN

Sunday’s race is scheduled to start at 12:00 p.m. and it will be broadcast nationally on ESPN.

Last week, Jeff Gordon revitalized his season with a victory in the rain-shortened Pennsylvania 400 at Pocono with Kasey Kahne taking second and Martin Truex Jr. finishing third.

The following is a closer look at our favorite, contender, and longshot for this Sunday’s race along with their current odds to win as provided by Bovada.

The Favorite (odds of less than 10/1)

Tony Stewart is one the favorites to win on Sunday at +600 partially because of his extensive road course experience from a past career in open-wheel racing, but also because he is one of the best overall race drivers in the world. The No. 14 car is in perfect position to successfully defend last season’s Sprint Cup title. It is in sixth-place in the standings with 691 points as a result of three previous victories to go along with six other top-five finishes.

Stewart’s past performance at the Glenn also adds value to his odds. He finished 27th in last year’s race, but has taken the checkered flag here five times and has an average finishing position of 7.1.

The Contender (odds of 10/1 to 19/1)

It is highly doubtful that Juan Montoya will be in this year’s Chase unless he happens to win at least two of the next five races. While he is currently 21st in the standings with just two top-10 finishes this season, he is another driver with extensive road course experience as a former open-wheel racer. [ad-8757089]

Last season, the No. 42 car finished seventh in this race after posting a victory here in 2010. Montoya has finished in the top 10 in four of his five career races at the Glenn and has been opened at +1000 to add another victory here to his resume.

The Longshot (odds of 20/1 or higher)

You would not normally connect the name Clint Bowyer with road course racing, but after his win earlier this season on the road course at Sonoma you might want to take a closer look at his chances to win this week. He has been opened as a moderate +2000 longshot, but given this win and his recent form there is some serious value in these odds.

The No. 15 race team is 10th in the standings with 679 points and in solid position to make this year’s Chase with 11 top-10 finishes in 21 races.

Some of the value is lost considering that Bowyer’s best finish in this race in six career starts is ninth in 2009.
