The Rangers made a statement at the trade deadline when they traded away 6 players for Phillies ace Cole Hamels. For the time being, that hasn’t worked out as Hamels battles back from a groin injury and tries to grab his first win in a Rangers’ uniform.
For the Mariners, they haven’t had much success this season overall, but they’ve done a nice job against the Rangers. Seattle has taken 7 of the 9 meetings in 2015.

Seattle will go with RH Taijuan Walker in the series opener. The Rangers will counter with prized trading piece Cole Hamels.
Seattle Mariners
Seattle had high hopes heading into this season when they signed some solid free agents to solidify their lineup and rotation. However, those signings haven’t worked out and the Mariners are now in a spoiler position as the final month and half approaches.
They’ll have their chance starting Monday as they look to ruin the Rangers’ playoff chances once again.

Trying to push that to 8 of 11, RH Taijuan Walker will try to continue his unbeaten streak. Walker is unbeaten over his last 5 outings, but is just 1-0 in those outings.
Dating back to June 10th, Walker has won 6 of his last 7 decisions and has just a 2.42 ERA over his last turns.
He defeated the Rangers back on April 27th as he allowed 1 unearned run in a 3-1 victory.
Texas Rangers
The Rangers recent surge has gotten them into striking position in both the AL West and AL Wild Card. Texas swept the Rays over the weekend and have won 4 straight overall as they find themselves just 4.0 games out of the AL West and 1 game back of the AL Wild Card.
If they can get the same Cole Hamels that the Phillies had for the first part of the season, the Rangers are in a potential position to make a legit run at the division.
Hamels was dominant with the Phillies, but since being traded has been knocked around and is now battling through a groin injury. He has been cleared to go at 100% and will start on Monday.

Hamels last start came back on August 7th against the Mariners where he allowed 4 runs. Three of those runs came on solo home runs as Hamels had trouble keeping his pitches down.
