Boston brought a nine-game winning streak into this series, but was blanked 4-0 as a 118 road underdog in Tuesday night’s Game 1. The loss dropped the Red Sox to 39-27 overall and cut their lead in the division over New York to just a game and a half. They are 19-13 at home this season and 20-14 on the road heading into Wednesday’s Game 2.

Scoring had been plentiful over the nine-game streak as Boston averaged an incredible 9.2 runs per game. The Red Sox are first in the American League in runs scored with 350 led by Adrian Gonzalez’s league-best 60 RBI.

Clay Bushholtz will be on the mound on Thursday for Boston. He is coming off a solid outing against Toronto in which he allowed just one run on three hits in seven innings of work to earn the win. Bushholtz is now 5-3 with a 3.59 ERA. He is 3-2 against the Rays in his career with a 1.81 ERA.

Tampa Bay has now won six of its last eight games and is just 3.5 back of Boston with an overall record of 36-31 heading into Wednesday’s game. They are 21-15 on the road, but just 15-16 at home. [dfads params=’groups=10&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]

Pitching has been the primary strength of the Rays this season with a team ERA of 3.69. Tampa’s offense has been inconsistent at best this season as it is ranked ninth in the AL in runs scored with 277. Fortunately, the Rays’ pitching has remained solid with a team ERA of 3.69.

David Price will get the start for Tampa Bay in this one. The left-hander is 7-5 this season with a 3.51 ERA. He gave up four earned runs on eight hits his last time out in six innings of work. Lifetime against the Red Sox, Price is 4-2 with an ERA of 3.18.

Head-to-head, Tuesday’s win was the Rays third straight this season with the total staying ‘under’ in the last two. This time around stick with Tampa Bay once again as Price outduels Bushholtz for the win.
