Rays vs. Blue Jays Series Betting

Betting preview for this weeks AL East MLB series between the Tampa Bay Rays and the Toronto Blue Jays. Tonight at 7:07 p.m. ET Jeff Niemann takes on Roy “Doc” Halladay…

Rays vs Blue Jays Series Predictions/Picks

In Wimbledon betting, we see the plot thicken for the later rounds this week.

Fittingly, the American League East is getting crowded at the top and each MLB Betting series seems more important than the last.

Can the surging Rays bury the pesky Jays or will Toronto keep surprising?

Tonight, 7:07 p.m. ET
Jeff Niemann (6-4, 4.23) vs Roy Halladay (10-1, 2.53)

The city of Toronto rejoices as Jays ace Roy Halladay returns from his groin injury tonight. He’s dominated all season and he’ll try for the major-league wins lead, but I like the Rays to pull off the online sportsbook betting upset tonight. Halladay may be a bit rusty and the top of Tampa’s order features four hitters – Carl Crawford, B.J. Upton, Evan Longoria and Carlos Pena – who have taken Doc deep before.

Jeff Niemann has a slight advantage against the Jays since they’ve never faced him, and the edge always goes to the pitcher in that situation. It’s not often that you bet against Doc, but it makes sense to try it tonight.

Daily sports pick: Rays

Tuesday, June 30, 7:07 p.m. ET
Matt Garza (5-5, 3.61) vs Scott Richmond (6-4, 3.68)

Rookie Scott Richmond’s season is a microcosm of 2009 for the Jays in general – delivering far more than expected on low expectations. While he’ll likely hang in against the high-octane Rays Tuesday, the road could be bumpy; he does allow lots of homers and the Rays hit them in bunches. Meanwhile, Matt Garza has oodles of stats telling you to pick the Rays in your MLB predictions, and I’m sure your sportsbook software would point you in the same direction. In six career starts against the Jays, he has a 1.99 ERA and 1.06 WHIP. He also always brings it against powerful lineups; against the Red Sox, Yankees and Phillies this season, Garza is 3-0 with a 1.73 ERA in 41.2 innings. Not too shabby. You have to go with him and the Rays here.

Daily sports pick: Rays

Wednesday, July 1, 1:07 p.m. ET
James Shields (6-5, 3.41) vs Ricky Romero (5-3, 3.20)

It’s no wonder the Rays are surging back up the standings. James Shields in particular is right back on track with his career norms, showing his usual pinpoint control (he’s walked just three batters in 34.1 June innings). He’ll battle the Jays hard on Wednesday but the Jays have something special going for them – Wednesday is Canada Day, meaning the Rogers Center should have a much bigger crowd than normal. The Jays always seem to step it up when their building has more of a playoff atmosphere, so they’ll prevail. It certainly doesn’t hurt that Ricky Romero looks like an ace in June, going 4-1 with a 2.36 ERA and 33 strikeouts in 34.1 innings.

Daily sports pick: Blue Jays
