Baseball Gambling Lines:

Total: Over/Under 6

The Philadelphia Phillies travel to the West Coast for a three game weekend series against the Padres at PETCO Park in San Diego. Game 1 is scheduled for tonight at 10:05 p.m. (ET).

After suffering through a disastrous four game sweep at the hands of Houston this past week, Philadelphia drops to 70-57 on the year and is now three games behind Atlanta in the NL East and a ½ game behind San Francisco in the wildcard race. The Phillies are 28-21 straight up on the road and 18-15 against the spread as an underdog. They are 59-66-2 against the ‘over/under’ line. Four of their last six games against the Padres have stayed ‘under’ the total.

Roy Oswalt will be on the mound tonight for Philadelphia. Since joining the Phillies at the end of July he is 3-1 in five starts. On the year he is 9-13 with a 3.22 ERA. In Oswalt’s last outing he pitched seven innings, giving up five hits and no earned runs in a win over Washington. Lifetime against the Padres he is 10-2 with an ERA of 2.56.

The Phillies bats have suddenly ground to a halt as the team has only averaged 2.12 runs in their last eight games. On the season they are ranked ninth in the NL with a team batting average of .258. Their 586 runs scored, an average of 4.61 runs per game, rank them fifth in the league.

San Diego comes into this series with the best record in the NL at 76-50. The Padres have won seven out of their last 10 game and have a six game lead over the Giants in the NL West. They are 38-23 SU at PETCO Park and 43-21 ATS as the favorite. Against the ‘over/under’ line they are 58-59-9 with the total going ‘over’ in five of their last six games.

Mat Latos will get the start tonight for San Diego. In 23 previous starts he is 13-5 with an ERA of 2.33. Last time out he gave up five hits and two earned runs in seven innings of work, getting the win over the Cubs. Against the Phillies he is 0-1 with a 5.40 ERA.

The Padres have relied pretty much on their pitching this season as their.251 team batting average is tied for 12th in the NL. They are ranked 10th in the league in runs scored with 565. Adrian Gonzalez leads the team with 140 hits, 86 RBI, and 27 HR’s.

The Phillies have won eight of their last nine games against the Padres in San Diego, but none of those games were played this season. Given Philadelphia’s current batting slump and Latos on the mound, stick with the Padres to take Game 1 of this series.

I dont know baseball very good, but the Padres look ok. My friend called me from Chicago and told me that St. Louis will lose today to the nationals! “?????”
I am not backing this, but he is pretty good. He likes SD and the under.
