Baseball Gambling Lines:

Total: Over/Under 7.5

The Philadelphia Phillies pay a visit to Sun Life Stadium in Miami for three game divisional series with the Marlins. Game 1 is scheduled for tonight at 7:05 P.M.

After winning eight of its last 10 games, Philadelphia has closed the gap with Atlanta in the NL East to three games.

The Phillies are now 57-48 overall and 23-30 SU on the road. They are 42-33 ATS as a favorite and 50-53-2 against the over/under line.

The total has stayed under in four of their last five games against Florida on the road.

Phillies ace Roy Halladay will be on the mound tonight. In 22 starts this season, the right hander is 12-8 with a 2.21 ERA. In his last outing he pitched a complete game giving up six hits and just one earned run in a win against Arizona. Lifetime against the Marlins, Halladay is 2-2 with a 2.12 ERA, including pitching a perfect game back on May 29th of this year.

In a tough break for a team that is already devastated with injuries, Ryan Howard will be out of the lineup tonight for Philadelphia, after spraining his ankle in Sunday’s win over the Nationals. Ryan leads the team with 119 hits, 83 RBI, and 23 home runs. As a team, the Phillies are tied for seventh in the NL with a .258 batting average. Their 493 runs scored rank them third.

Florida comes into this series one game over .500 at 53-52. It has won six out of its last 10 games and is now in third place in the East; seven games back. The Marlins are 28-26 SU at home and 24-30 ATS as an underdog. Against the over/under line they have gone 53-47-5.

Left hander Sean West will be making his first start for Florida this season. He has spent most of the year with the Marlins triple A team in New Orleans where he went 4-3 with a 4.12 ERA. Last year with Florida, West started 20 games, compiling an 8-6 record with an ERA of 4.79.

As a team, the Marlins are ranked 11th in the NL with a .256 batting average. They have scored a total of 477 runs, ranking them sixth in the league. Dan Uggla leads the team with 65 RBI and 23 home runs. All told there are four players in Florida’s lineup that have over 100 hits this season.

Philadelphia has enjoyed some recent success in this series in Florida as it has gone 11-3 SU in its last 14 games against the Marlins on the road.

The loss of Howard will definitely hurt on the offensive side, but having Halladay on the mound should be enough for the Phillies to get the win in a low scoring game.
