Friday MLB Betting – Cardinals vs Brewers Preview & Pick

The St. Louis Cardinals are heating up again. A big reason for that: Lance Berkman is back from injury and hasn’t missed a beat. The Big Puma has clubbed three homers in his last four games.

St. Louis Cardinals (37-26 through June 8)
Kyle Lohse (7-2, 2.41)

It also helps that Mr. Albert Pujols has awakened in a huge way; he has five long balls in his last four games.

Pitching coach Dave Duncan continues to squeeze every ounce of ability out of his pitching staff. Even after allowing four runs on 11 hits over 5.2 innings in his last start, Kyle Lohse only saw his ERA jump to 2.41. He was a hard-luck loser the last time he faced Milwaukee, allowing one run in eight sparkling innings.

Milwaukee Brewers (35-27)
Chris Narveson (2-4, 4.85)

The Brew Crew continue to crusade up the standings. They have the best home record in baseball at 22-8 and their home field, Miller Park, is playing as the league’s top hitter’s venue this season. [dfads params=’groups=10&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]

That said, sluggers like Prince Fielder may be skewing the stats. He alone has six homers and 12 RBI in just seven games so far this month. The power bats are alive in Milwaukee and the wins are rolling in now that top starters Zack Greinke, Yovani Gallardo and Shaun Marcum are mowing down the competition.

Fifth starter Chris Narveson has flashed a healthy strikeout rate this season but, aside from that, doesn’t get the fans on their feet like the other Brewer hurlers can. He’s allowed at least four runs in three straight starts. He did, however, hold the Cardinals to three runs, two earned, on May 8.

MLB Trends:

STL are 8-3 in their last 11 road games.
STL are 37-14 in their last 51 Fri. games.
Over is 21-9-1 in STL last 31 road games.
MIL are 9-0 in their last 9 games following a loss.
MIL are 22-8 in their last 30 home games.
MIL are 19-7 in their last 26 overall.
STL are 1-7 in Lohses last 8 starts vs. MIL.
STL are 10-4 in the last 14 meetings in Milwaukee.

The pick:

Since both teams are swinging the bats very well right now, I see pitching as the tiebreaker. Lohse is vastly outperforming Narveson this season so I think he can guide St. Louis to a road win.

Cardinals vs Brewers prediction: Cardinals 5, Brewers 4
