Most recently they split a weekend 4 set with Houston, losing the last two.
They enter this series with the Rangers with little momentum hoping for some better results.
After a slow start 3B Josh Donaldson has been coming on lately, leading the club with 7 homers. The A’s are in the top 5 in offense in the league. Pair that with a pitching staff that has exceeded expectations and it is easy to see why they are in first place.

It hasn’t take long but Sonny Gray for Sonny Gray to establish himself as a top starter in Oakland making this one a matchup of aces.
Gray pitched well against Texas at home giving up only 3ER while striking out 8 or 7IP but he got zero support in the 3-0 loss. It is his only loss on the season but the A’s are just 3-2 when he starts.
This is a big series and Gray needs to be sharp to get the A’s going in the right direction.

Texas
The Rangers had their own struggles over the weekend dropping two of three against Seattle.
After sweeping the A’s last week they are probably looking forward to seeing Oakland again so soon, especially with Darvish ready to kick things off. This team is still missing some key players but got 3B Adrian Beltre back over the weekend – he looked alright too with hits in all three games over the weekend.
With Alex Rios still hot they can probably manage enough offense in the short term but it would help in Shin-Soo Choo was in the lineup.
Martin Perez has been such a good story that nobody is talking much about Yu Darvish even though he has been fantastic since skipping his opening day slot due to injury. He comes into Monday with an ERA of 1.61. and is averaging more than strikeout per inning.
He was solid in his lone start against Oakland this year but it was without a doubt the least impressive start he has made all season long even though Texas got the victory.
A couple of very strong pitchers are colliding on Monday night and I think they will keep the scoring down.
Neither team has momentum coming into this one but I think that Oakland will be feeling a much higher sense of urgency as they cannot afford back to back series against Texas with nothing to show for it.
