Behind a solid pitching staff the Mets are not as bad as people think. No they are not going to challenge Washington and Atlanta but they could easily play a little bit of spoiler over the last few months of the season.

They key is just getting any kind of consistent offensive production. They enter Tuesday on a three game losing streak, no surprise as they have scored just 3 runs over that span.
Only three regulars are hitting above .250 and it is not like they have a bunch of sluggers.

The Mets have some highly touted pitching in their organization but not a lot was expected from Jacob DeGrom this season.
You can throw out his poor won-loss as being the product of a lousy team but deGrom has proved that he belongs at this level, performing as one of the best rookie starting pitchers in the Majors.

Now he just has to keep doing it, lots of rookies hit the wall sooner or later.
Seattle
It is going to be hard for the Mariners to catch Oakland and Los Angeles but right now they are sitting in that final Wild Card slot, with a little bit of a cushion.
Seattle needs to take care of business against New York before an important series against Baltimore and then hitting the road.
Robinson Cano gets all the headlines but don’t forget their other All-Star, Kyle Seager, who is leading the club in homers and RBIs.
Rookie OF James Jones is also giving the team a lift, adding some speed to the lineup.
Seattle is making a push for the playoffs and if they succeed it will be because the starting pitching gets the there.
Erasmo Ramirez has shown potential in the past but this year he has struggled, easily making him the weak link on the staff right now. Facing a light-hitting Mets squad at home is a fortuitous opportunity for a guy looking to get back on track.
He is not getting hit hard but has to do a better job managing the bases on balls.
With these two offenses the under seems like a no-brainer but I almost never recommend that kind of strategy – I hate rooting for boring action. Instead go with Seattle. Ramirez on the hill gives some value back on the Ms as he is their weakest link right now but this is against the Mets so punch it.
