The Orioles took two of three from the Angeles in a series in Los Angeles last week.

The Orioles are happy to return home following a 10-game road-trip, though they did win six of those contests. They likely won’t be happy with the fact that they get a hot Angels team, particularly one looking for revenge after dropping a series to these very Orioles in their home ballpark last week.

This same pitching matchup went down in Los Angeles to close that series last week, and it was the lone win in the series for the Angels. The team claimed a 3-2 victory behind a strong pitching performance from starter Jered Weaver, who allowed two runs on six hits in eight innings of work, striking out six and not walking a batter.

Chris Tillman pitched well, allowing one run on five hits over six innings of work, exiting the game with the lead. While he was in line for the win, he wouldn’t get it as the team’s bullpen gave the lead away, when Tommy Hunter blew his fifth save of the year.

Tillman’s been better at home this season, posting a 2.89 ERA in his home ballpark, though run support has been an issue as he’s compiled a 1-5 record in those contests. After posting a 5.68 ERA in the month of May, Tillman bounced back, posting a 3.09 ERA in the months of June and July.

The majority of the Orioles’ top bats are right-handed, which is good news for Weaver, who owns a very dramatic split, allowing left-handed hitters to bat for a .263 average, while holding righties to a .160 batting average.

The Orioles look like a good value play in this one, particularly given that they play this game at home, but Jered Weaver has really picked up his play of late, helping the Angels to wins in each of his last seven starts, so bettors may be wise to look at the total in this one.

Both pitchers have been strong through the month of July after shaky starts, though the total in this contest would have one believe they haven’t been able to turn things around. With a lofty total in this contest thanks to the slow-changing public perception associated with these pitchers, the under looks like the play.

The under is 7-0 in the Orioles’ last seven games overall, and it is 19-6-1 in Tillman’s last 26 home starts.

The under is also 6-1 in the Angels’ last seven games overall, and 19-7-1 in the Orioles’ last 27 home games.

The play: Under 8.5
