St. Louis was 1-5 heading into this series but pounded out a much needed 6-2 victory on Tuesday as a 126 road underdog. The Cardinals are 42-38 heading into Wednesday’s game and two games in back of Milwaukee in the NL Central. They are 21-18 at home and 21-20 on the road. St. Louis is 30-24 as a favorite and 12-14 as an underdog.

The six runs scored is a good sign for a St. Louis lineup that lost All-Star 1B Albert Pujols earlier this month with a broken forearm. Since he went down, the Cardinals are 2-5 and have averaged just 3.86 runs per game..

Jaime Garcia is scheduled to get the start for St. Louis on Thursday. He is 6-3 this year with an ERA of 3.06. The left hander has just one win in his last eight starts, but has not given up more than three earned runs in his last five. [dfads params=’groups=10&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]

Baltimore is rapidly fading away in the AL East race as Tuesday’s loss left it 10.5 games in back of New York with an overall record of 35-41. The Orioles are a 13-21 on the road, but a respectable 22-20 at home. They are 16-14 as a favorite and 19-27 as an underdog

Pitching remains the primary problem for Baltimore as it is ranked 13th in the AL with a team ERA of 4.35. Its hitting has not been able to close the gap, but remains solid with a .260 team batting average and 315 runs scored.

Brian Matusz is slated to be on the mound for the Orioles. The left hander has been inconsistent since coming off the DL and gave up six earned runs on nine hits in just 4.2 innings his last time out. He is 1-3 overall with a 6.85 ERA.

Stick with the Cardinals to come away with a win in the series finale as even without Pujols, they pretty much have their way with Matusz on the mound for Baltimore.

MLB Gambling Trends:

Over is 9-4 in BAL last 13 on grass.
