ATS Matchup Insight | CappersPicks Insider Preview

Houston (17-29) saw its season-best three-game winning streak came to an end in game two, as the Angels (25-20) won their ninth game in 12 outings, 9-3 on Tuesday.

Despite the six-run differential, the Astros’ offense continues to get better and has now registered nine hits in 10 straight games. Many of those coming from second baseman Jose Altuve, who will look to continue his career-best 12-game hitting streak on Wednesday at the Big A. He is batting .418 and is 23-for-55 during that span.

Los Angles will try to spoil that by sending right hander Jered Weaver to the mound in game one.

The veteran hurler has been pitching lights out over his last six starts, allowing just eight runs in nearly 40 innings. The 31-year-old has an ERA of 3.14, and has only faced the Astros twice during his career, posting a 1-1 record and a 5.40 ERA, which included a loss earlier this year when he gave up five runs in 5 2/3 innings.

Weaver lost his last outing, 3-0 to Tampa Bay last Friday, when he allowed two runs over seven frames.
The Astros will counter with Collin McHugh who is making his first career appearance against the Angels.

Houston claimed the 26-year-old on waivers from Colorado last December, and he has turned out to be a solid acquisition, allowing just two home runs in 31 innings.

The right-hander pitched five strong frames last Friday against the White Sox, but was eventually pelted for four runs in the sixth, registering his second straight loss of the year.

He will need to be sharp on Wednesday, as LA will likely return right fielder Kole Calhoun and slugging center fielder Mike Trout, back to an already top-notch lineup.

LA’ offense already got a boost when it returned third baseman David Freese on Tuesday. He drove in four runs against the Astros, whose defense still remains a concern.

Matt’s Free Prediction: Angels –

The Astros are attempting to win three straight series for the first time since 2010, but if the Angles get a strong outing from Weaver, this one’s in the bag.
