Atrocious pitching has been the order of the day for home team Toronto thus far in 2015; it took a rare gem being spun by grizzled knuckleballer R.A. Dickey yesterday to propel the Jays by the Yanks, 3-1.

They’ll hope to duplicate that with patchwork starting rotation member Marco Estrada going tonight in Toronto.

The composition of the 2015 Blue Jays (13-14) is one of a classic American League outfit: Eye-popping offense, plenty of slugging – for both sides on a given night.

Toronto will win a lot of 10-7 ballgames, but it’ll lose its share, too.

Then there is the visiting Yankees (16-10) who have been playing above their heads so far in the rather uninspiring AL East division.

On the hill for the visitors is the hard-throwing Pineda, who has been great for the Bronx Bombers when he’s been healthy. He’s off to a solid start to the regular season and Pineda will look to sustain that against Toronto’s bopping lineup.

It doesn’t help that OF Jose Bautista has been unable to play the field after a hasty, aggressive throw to first base a couple of weeks ago re-aggravated a shoulder ailment.

“Joey Bats” has been forced to DH, taking some of the pop out of the lineup for the Jays.

Still, there’s 1B/DH Edwin Encarnacion, who is a power threat even when he’s off to a very cold start to the year, 3B Josh Donaldson and rookie revelation 2B Devon Travis, who inexplicably has been Toronto’s best hitter through almost 30 games.

Veteran pitcher Estrada is in Toronto’s rotation after promising rookie Daniel Norris got sent down to Triple A to iron out some kinks; Estrada has pitched well so far but it’s a very small sample size and he’s been known to give up bushels of home runs – hardly good news playing in the dinger-happy Rogers Centre.

We’ll see if New York’s aging, creaking lineup can capitalize on Estrada’s weakness.

The Yanks have been doing it with pitching and an eleventh-hour renaissance from Public Enemy No. 1, aka Alex Rodriguez.

With the organization greedily proclaiming they won’t pay A-Rod his HR bonuses they contractually agreed to, the public stance is perhaps softening on the slugger.

If he keeps hitting like he has been (6 HR, .347 OBP/.494 SLG) Yankees fans will continue to warm, as everyone loves a redemption story, as Rodriguez returns from his year-long suspension for PED use.

4* Free MLB Pick: New York 6, Toronto 3

The Jays offense can explode for double-digit runs on any given night, but with Pineda throwing well and Estrada hardly proven in the young season, look for New York’s bats to set the tone on Tuesday night.
