New York

The Mets lost last night against the Marlins but still hold a nice lead in the NL East.

Wednesday is the rubber match of the series and a loss will mean back to back series losses in a row, on the road. Knowing Mets fans they are likely to think the sky is falling even though they have yet to lose a home game this season.

The Mets are experimenting with a six man rotation right now.

If recent results are the indicator than it is not working all that well.

Bartolo Colon may be the subject of jokes but he has won all four starts this season, alternating really good with pretty good performance (making him due for a really good one).

He faced the Marlins a week and a half ago and held them to one run over 7 innings, walking nobody. In fact he has only issues one free pass all season and should be able to tame the Marlins lineup.

Miami

The Marlins got off to a slow start but have been playing better lately. After last night’s win against the Mets they have now won 6 of their last 7, all against the division as they try and chase down New York. Another win to take the series would be important in the standings and for the team’s confidence.

This team really needs a shot in the arm because for the most part nobody is performing to expectations. Except maybe speedster Dee Gordon who is hitting .400.

I like the acquisition of Mat Latos by Miami but through four starts he has been hit really hard. He has an ERA over 7 and is giving up way too many hits and walks. There are some murmurs out there that his arm is shot and that it is unreasonable to expect the level of performance we saw in San Diego and Cincinnati.

Latos has historically been a poor performer in April so riding this out could be the right strategy.

MLB Betting Trends:

  • NYM are 13-3 in their last 16 overall.
  • NYM are 13-3 in their last 16 games on grass.
  • Over is 6-2-1 in NYM last 9 road games.
  • Under is 10-4-4 in MIA last 18 Wed. games.
  • Over is 9-4-1 in MIA last 14 overall.
  • Over is 9-4-1 in MIA last 14 on grass.
  • Over is 12-3-1 in the last 16 meetings.
  • Under is 10-3-2 in the last 15 meetings in Miami.

MLB Betting Prediction:  Over 7.5

The Mets are a good bet here too but I think the over is smarter.

MLB Score Prediction:  New York 5 – Miami 4

Colon seems due for a little regression and Latos has been awful so far.

Neither team is an offensive juggernaut but they don’t have to explode to cover.
