ATS Matchup Insight | CappersPicks Insider Preview

Cincinnati (38-38) hasn’t dropped a series since they lost two of three to San Francisco from June 3-5. However, they need a road win over the Cubs on to keep it that way.

After a 53-minute rain delay, the Reds couldn’t get any one on base until the seventh inning in Tuesday’s 7-3 loss to the Cubs, who have not won a home series against the Reds since 2011.

In fact, the Cubs (32-43) had lost 33 of 45 meetings with the Reds since then, but somehow found a way to silence a red-hot Cincinnati lineup, which was without second baseman Brandon Phillips who missed the first two games of the series with a bruised right heel.

However, Billy Hamilton and Devin Mesoraco have been picking up the slack. The speedy Hamilton has hit safely in a career-best 12 straight games, while Mesoraco has homered in five straight games.

Mesoraco might get a day off, as he is 2-for-8 versus Edwin Jackson who is expected to start on the mound for Chicago in game three.

Jackson picked up a win his last time out, allowing just three runs and five hits over five innings. The 30-year-old right-hander is 4-1 with a 3.45 ERA in seven starts against the Reds, including wins in both meetings this season.

Cincy will counter with veteran Matt Latos, who pitched six innings of two-hit, shutout baseball in his season debut at the Brewers, but got pummeled in his next start, surrendering five runs and nine hits over 5 2/3 innings in a 14-9 loss against Toronto.

Latos is 5-2 with a 2.83 ERA in nine starts against the Cubs including a 3-0 record in four appearances in Chicago.

Matt’s Free Prediction: Reds –

Latos was less than perfect in his last outing, but Jackson doesn’t really impress me here.

I expect the Reds to get those bats that were held quiet on Tuesday, working early in this one, giving them the win.
