The Chicago Cubs will look to even the series and put a bit more distance between them and NL Central rivals the Milwaukee Brewers with a win in game two of a three- game set on Wednesday at Miller Park.
The Brewers are 4-6 in their last ten games and sit fourth in the NL central, two games behind the Cubs who are 3-7 in the last ten.
Carlos Zambrano takes the hill for Chicago, after looking quite rusty in his return to the rotation Friday night in Houston. He had five days off between his final relief appearance and his first start in more than a month. Zambrano was stuck in the bullpen after going 1-2 with a 7.45 ERA in his first four starts of the season. Not much better as a reliever, he was 0-1 with a 4.15 ERA over 13 relief appearances. In Houston he threw 84 pitches and struggled in the first throwing 34 of them. The final line was ugly: he allowed three runs, six hits and three walks in 4 1/3 innings as the Cubs lost. Wednesday he is pitching in perhaps his favorite opposing ballpark and will attempt to win his fifth straight decision at Miller Park. He’s 4-0 with a 1.96 ERA in his last five starts there, including his no-hitter against Houston on Sept. 14, 2008.
Cub’s third baseman Aramis Ramirez did not start on Tuesday for the second straight game. It looks like he is headed for the DL again after hitting .168 overall and just .125 on the road. The team may call up Chad Tracy who is batting .396 in 26 games at Triple-A Iowa, with five home runs, eight doubles and 18 RBIs. On Tuesday against New Orleans, Tracy hit two solo homers.
Milwaukee hopes to win back-to-back home games in Chicago for the first time since 2006, and will make Randy Wolf the man to try to beat. The left-hander is 5-7 with a 4.22 ERA in 17 career starts against Chicago, a 3-1 record with a 2.10 ERA in his last four starts. For the season Wolf has struggled to the tune of 2-4 with a 5.71 ERA in his last seven starts. He was hit hard Friday in St. Louis giving up five runs over 6 2/3 innings.
Former Chicago prospect Casey McGehee carried the Brewers Tuesday with a two-run, two-out single in the ninth inning. He has been a pleasant surprise all season and leads the team with 45 RBI’s. Prince Fielder is hitting .348 for the month but only has two homeruns and two RBIs to show for it, making some wonder if his wrist is still bothering him.
The odds makers have the Brewers as –1-½ – favorites with a run total of 8 ½.

Zambrano is not as good as he used to be. Brewer’s starter Wolf is a little bit better than average. Mix in the revenge factor because of the way the Brewers were dismantled by the Cubs the last time the two met, plus the fact that Milwaukee is a better hitting team, and I expect the Brewers to win this and the UNDER.
