Friday, May 1 at 7:05 PM ET: Todd Wellemeyer (1-2, 6.14 ERA) vs Jordan Zimmermann (2-0, 2.38 ERA)

MLB odds: Cardinals -110

The Nationals will send their sensational youngster, Jordan Zimmermann, to the mound on Friday night and he’ll make his third Major League start.

Zimmermann has been stellar so far, winning both starts while allowing just 12 hits and three earned runs in 11.1 innings of work. He’s still just 22 years old, so some will expect him to be unreliable but so far, but he has been exactly what the Nationals needed. While the Nats do have the second-youngest rotation in the majors, he has recently become one of their most reliable pitchers.

For the Cardinals, Todd Wellemeyer has struggled in four starts this season. Most of his struggles have come at home, though, as he did put forth a one-run, seven-inning effort in his lone road start this season.

Pick: Nationals

Saturday, May 2 at 1:05 PM ET: Joel Pineiro (4-0, 3.76 ERA) vs Shairon Martis (2-0, 6.20 ERA)

MLB odds: No Line

Shairon Martis will make his fifth start of the season on Saturday and he will look to bounce back from his worst start of the season. In his last start, Martis allowed seven earned runs on just eight hits in five innings pitched. His numbers have been below average all season as he’s struck out just seven batters in 20.1 innings pitched while walking 11. His cumulative WHIP is 1.72 but, over the last two starts that WHIP has ballooned to 2.00.

For the Cardinals, Joel Pineiro has been very steady. Aside from one bad start in Arizona, Pineiro has allowed just six earned runs in 21.1 innings with a WHIP of 1.14.

Pick: Cardinals

Sunday, May 3 at 1:35 PM ET: Kyle Lohse (3-0, 1.97 ERA) vs John Lannan (0-3, 4.61 ERA)

MLB odds: No Line

Kyle Lohse has been one of the biggest surprises in baseball this season but to those who have followed his career in St. Louis, they know he’s not the Lohse of old.

Lohse is currently tied for second in wins (3) and fifth in ERA (1.97) in the National League, but his performance this year is simply a continuation of outstanding pitching last year.

Prior to his arrival in St. Louis, Lohse was just 63-74 lifetime with an ERA of 5.18. Since joining the Cardinals, Lohse is 18-6 with an ERA of 3.53.

He’ll face John Lannan, who has yet to get a win this season.

Pick: Cardinals
