Boston extended its dominance over the Yankees this season with a 6-4 victory in Game 1 on Tuesday night as a 122 road favorite. It was its six win in the seven games the two have played so far. The Red Sox find themselves tied with New York for the lead in the division heading into Wednesday’s Game 2. They are 34-26 overall; 19-13 at home and 15-13 on the road.

David Ortiz was the hero in Tuesday’s game with a two-run blast in the fifth to add to his team-high 14 home runs and Adrian Gonzalez knocked in a run to add to his MLB-high 51 RBI. The Red Sox are hitting .270 and averaging 4.93 runs per game.

Josh Beckett will get the start in this one for Boston. He is 4-2 this season with a 2.01 ERA in 12 previous starts. Lifetime against the Yankees he is 12-7 with an ERA of 5.66.

Tuesday’s loss dropped New York to 6-4 in its last 10 games and to 33-25 on the year. It is 16-11 on the road this season and 17-14 at home.

The Yankees have not been the best hitting team in the AL with a .251 team batting average, but they are ranked second in runs scored with 297 for an average of 5.12 runs per game. All together, there are six players in the lineup with 25 or more RBI this year. [dfads params=’groups=10&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]

New York will send C.C. Sabathia to the mound. The left hander is 7-3 in 13 starts and has an ERA of 2.80. He has pitched eight or more innings in his last four starts, winning all four. Sabathia is 6-7 against Boston with a 3.63 ERA.

Becket has gotten the best of Sabathia in the first two showdowns this season, but this time around stick with C.C. and the Yankees to grind out the win against their bitter rivals in a tight, low-scoring battle.
