There’s no other way to put it; Cliff Lee outclassed the Tampa Bay Rays in Game 1.As much as the Rays have matured since their playoff run two years ago, they looked like rookies flailing away against the Rangers’ ace on Wednesday.

Can Tampa bounce back in a borderline must-win today?
After trotting out Cy Young candidate David Price and still losing Game 1, the Rays have to be a bit nervous about starting James Shields in Game 2.
The truth is that he just wasn’t very good this season. He allowed an American League-worst 34 homers this season. 
Opponents hit .294 off him. He surrendered five or more earned runs in each of his last three starts.
Worse yet, Shields has to deal with Vladimir Guerrero, who bats .394 off him in his career with two homers and six RBI over 33 at-bats.
B.J. Upton, Evan Longoria, Carl Crawford, Carlos Pena were a combined 2 for 15 in Game 1. Will they have a better chance against C.J. Wilson? The converted Rangers reliever was a revelation this year, holding opponents to a .217 average, allowing just 10 homers and striking out 170 batters in 204 innings. He has a 2.45 career ERA against the Rays. But is that last stat misleading? Wilson has walked 14 batters in 18.1 career innings against Tampa.
The first thing you should do is bet the OVER in this matchup. Shields has been brutal and Wilson is inexperienced on the playoff stage. Secondly, you should consider picking Tampa to win.
It may not make a ton of sense at first with the gopher ball machine Shields facing a potent Texas lineup. But Wilson’s control issues could come back to bite him against the patient Rays. Tampa also needs to the win here at home.
I think they even up the series tonight by taking pitches, getting lots of baserunners and eventually cashing them in.
