Below will preview the first round match ups along with predictions for the tournament.

1. Albert Pujols vs. 8. Kris Bryant

Veteran vs. Rookie is featured here with Pujols taking on Bryant. Pujols leads the field in home runs with 26 in the first half of the season while Bryant has hit 12.

Expect Bryant to feel a little bit of pressure as he’s not only going up against the best of the tournament, but this will be the first real time he has the spotlight on him.

Bryant will impress, but Pujols should have no problem as he’s been here before.

WINNER: 1. Albert Pujols

4. Joc Pederson vs. 5. Manny Machado

We get a look at another rookie sensation here as Joc Pederson as he’s fit right into a stacked Dodgers lineup. The rookie has blasted 20 home runs and has shown off some impressive distances already. His average home run distance blows away his competition as he’s averaging 430.5 per blast.

As for Machado, hitting in a hitters’ friendly ballpark has helped him reach 19 home runs. He’s have a tough task in this first round as Pederson has felt zero pressure thus far and his home run distances could earn him a lot of bonus time.

WINNER: 4. Joc Pederson

3. Josh Donaldson vs. 6. Anthony Rizzo

We get look at the 2nd Cubs player in this contest as Rizzo takes on the Blue Jays Josh Donaldson. Donaldson has blasted 21 home runs thus far and that can be thanks in large part to Jose Bautista and Edwin Encarnacion. The duo has allowed Donaldson to see a lot of pitches as the opposition cannot simply pitch around all 3.

For Rizzo, 16 home runs is impressive as he’s often pitched around. The big lefty will likely need to match the distances of Donaldson as bonus time will determine this matchup.

WINNER: 3. Josh Donaldson

  • 2. Todd Frazier vs. 7. Prince Fielder

This is the most interesting matchup of the first round. Prince Fielder has already won 2 previous derbys and Frazier is stepping into the spot light for really the first time. Frazier is having an MVP like year thus far and would like to put on a show.

This one could really go either way, but experience could be the main difference.

WINNER: 7. Prince Fielder

SEMI FINALS PICKS:

  • 1. Albert Pujols over 4. Joc Pederson
  • 3. Josh Donaldson over 7. Prince Fielder

FINALS:

  • 1. Albert Pujols over 3. Josh Donaldson

Albert Pujols has shown off impressive power so far in the 2015 season. The finals matchup will be fun as both competitors can hit the ball hard and far.

In the end, the overall number 1 seed at 6/1 has a lot of value and is worth a look.
