There’s a ton of speed in this cheap maiden claimer out at Santa Anita. $25,000 is about as cheap as Santa Anita gets. $25,000 fillies is even cheaper because that means they don’t even want to keep these gals for breeding purposes. Okay, so which filly is the best of the cheapies? Probably Ellie L. who was running at the maiden special weight level, after starting off her career at $40,000, before running at the $32,000 level on Jan. 28th. She drops slightly to the $25,000 level and should be along in time because she won’t be too far off the pace. She’s the pick.
Sally Says So – – 8/1 morning line odds
She improved two races back and then just flopped in her last at this level. So, why do I like her today? Well, she is stretching out for the first time and she does get blinkers. Jose Valdivia is an underrated jock and her ability to close into the pace means she probably does very well in this. If the blinkers help at all, she could be right there.
Kind Lady – – 8/1 morning line odds
She ran here eyeballs out in her last only to fade and lose by 2 lengths. She faces a lot of other speed in here and might find the going tougher but there was obvious improvement in her first start around two turns. Who knows? Maybe jockey Joe Talamo gets more out of her this time.
Wagering Strategy
Ellie L. is a very strong play in this race and deserves a bet to win and place. I like her as a key horse in an exacta and trifecta over Sally Says So and Kind Lady.
