NFL Matchups – Week 2

There are 16 teams in the league that will be looking to avoid the dreaded 0-2 start that would dramatically increase their odds of not making the playoffs according to past statistics. While it is far too early to write any team off, this week should provide an early glimpse as to which teams are for real and which teams seemed destined for a long season.

The following is a brief look at each matchup along with the current odds as supplied by Bookmaker.com.

Sunday, Sep. 19
1:00 P.M. (ET) Arizona at Atlanta (-6.5)
Over/Under Line 43

Atlanta will be looking to find some offense after being held to just three field goals last week in Pittsburgh. Falcon RB Michael Turner was held to 42 yards on 19 carries.

Tampa Bay at Carolina
Over/Under Line

Carolina QB Matt Moore remains probable for this game, but will not be cleared to play until later this week after sustaining a concussion in the final minutes of the Panthers 31-18 loss to the Giants.

Kansas City at Cleveland (-2)
Over/Under Line 38

Kansas City suddenly looks like an exciting team after stunning San Diego with a couple of big plays by RB’s Jamaal Charles and rookie Dexter McCluster.

Philadelphia (-4) at Detroit
Over/Under Line 41

Both teams had their starting quarterback knocked out of the game in Week 1. The Lions’ Mathew Stafford is out for at least four to eight weeks with a separated shoulder and the Eagles’ Kevin Kolb will be a game time decision but right now looks doubtful for Sunday’s game.

Pittsburgh at Tennessee (-5)
Over/Under Line 37

Pittsburgh survived its first game without QB Ben Roethlisberger, but now the Steelers take their show on the road against Vince Young, Chris Johnson, and a very inspired Titan team.

Miami at Minnesota (-5.5)
Over/Under Line 40

Looking to put last Thursday night’s disappointing loss to the Saints behind them, the Vikings will have to generate some offense against a very solid Miami defense to get a win in their home opener.

Baltimore (-1.5) at Cincinnati
Over/Under Line 40

Baltimore looks to dispose of another team that did way too much talking during the preseason and could not back it up on opening day.

Chicago at Dallas (-8.5)
Over/Under Line 40.5

Tony Romo and Co. will try to finally generate some offense for a Dallas team that did everything in its power to avoid the end zone in last week’s loss to Washington.

Buffalo at Green Bay (-13.5)
Over/Under Line 43

Green Bays’ All Pro RB Ryan Grant is mostly likely lost for the season so look for the Packers to put this game into the hands of QB Aaron Rodgers and their high powered passing game.

4:05 P.M. St. Louis at Oakland(-4)
Over/Under Line 37.5

Oakland’s new look offense produced the same old results as the Raiders only managed 286 yards of total offense and 13 points against Tennessee last week.

Seattle at Denver (-3.5)
Over/Under Line

The Seahawks look to take their new found offensive attack on the road where they have only won three games in the past two years.

Jacksonville at San Diego (-8)
Over/Under Line 45.5

San Diego needs a win to avoid yet another slow start to the season after getting upset by the Chiefs. The absence of WR Vincent Jackson and LT Marcus McNeill had a visible effect on the Chargers offense in Monday night’s game.

New England (-1.5) at N.Y. Jets
Over/Under Line 39

The Patriots have a great chance to create some early separation between themselves and their closest competitor in the division with a win in the New Meadowlands Stadium.

Houston (-3) at Washington
Over/Under Line 44

Both these teams are coming off impressive upset wins over a division rival. The winner of this game will be the seen as the team that has made the biggest statement so far this season.

8:20 P.M. N.Y. Giants at Indianapolis (-5.5)
Over/Under Line 48

The Manning brothers square off in a rare head-to-head showdown that presents a great opportunity for Eli to show up his big brother in Peyton’s backyard.

Monday, Sep. 20
8:30 P.M.

New Orleans (-5) at San Francisco
Over/Under Line 44

San Francisco finds itself in a very difficult position to try and rebound from an extremely disappointing 31-6 loss to Seattle on opening day by hosting the defending Super Bowl champions in their home opener.
