NFL Matchups – Week 3

We are only two weeks into the 2010 NFL season and there is already some serious drama throughout the league. Dallas and Minnesota are a combined 0-4, Michael Vick is now the starting quarterback in Philadelphia, rookie quarterback Jimmy Clausen is the new starter in Carolina, and Tampa Bay and Kansas City who combined for seven wins last season are both 2-0.

The following is a brief look at each matchup along with the current odds as supplied by Bookmaker.com.

Sunday, Sep. 26

1:00 P.M. Cleveland at Baltimore (-10.5)
Over/Under: 37

Cleveland is trying to avoid a 0-3 start while Baltimore is still fuming over some of the calls that went against them in its 15-10 loss to Cincinnati. These two teams have combined for just 48 points so far.

Cincinnati (-3) at Carolina
Over/Under: 38

You have to wonder which Cincinnati team shows up for this game after a couple of up and down weeks. Carolina has already pulled the plug on the Matt Moore experiment after two dismal performances.

Dallas at Houston (-3)
Over/Under: 47.5

A 0-3 start for Dallas could incite a full-fledged mutiny on this team. Houston has a chance to move to 3-0 and become the toast of Texas as well as establish themselves as the team to beat in the AFC South.

Pittsburgh (-2.5) at Tampa Bay
Over/Under: 33.5

Pittsburgh will turn to Charlie Batch or Byron Leftwich as their interim starting QB after Dennis Dixon goes down with a knee injury. Tampa Bay is looking for its first 3-0 start since 2005 when the Bucs won their first four.

Tennessee at N.Y. Giants (-3)
Over/Under: 43

QB Vince Young will get the start in this game after getting benched in an ugly loss to the Steelers. New York will try and quickly put Sunday night’s 38-14 beatdown at the hands of the Colts behind them.

Atlanta at New Orleans (-4)
Over/Under: 50

Atlanta lost both games to the Saints last season by a combined 11 points. New Orleans is 2-0 but does not look nearly as dominant as it did in last season’s Super Bowl run.

Buffalo at New England (-14)
Over/Under: 42.5

Buffalo has scored a total of 17 points in its first two games so QB Ryan Fitzpatrick will be the starter for this game. New England RB Kevin Faulk is out after tearing the ACL in his right knee.

Detroit at Minnesota (-11)
Over/Under: 42.5

Detroit rookie RB Javid Best ran for 78 yards and added 154 yards receiving in the loss to Philadelphia. Minnesota has scored a total of 19 points in its first two games ranking them 31st in the league.

San Francisco (-2.5) at Kansas City
Over/Under: 37

San Francisco gets an A for effort in its 25-22 loss to the Saints on Monday night but it is still 0-2. Kansas City is ranked 30th in total offense and 25th in total defense but it is still 2-0.

4:05 P.M Washington (-3.5) at St. Louis
Over/Under: 38

QB Donovan McNabb completed 28-of-38 attempts for 426 yards but Washington’s defense could not protect a 17 point lead. St. Louis once again faded in the second half in a 16-14 loss to Oakland.

Philadelphia (-2.5) at Jacksonville

Over/Under 44 ½

Michael Vick will be Philadelphia’s starting quarterback after Head Coach Andy Reid changes his mind about giving Kevin Kolb his job back. Jacksonville’s defense has given up close to 900 total yards of offense in two games.

Indianapolis (-6) at Denver
Over/Under: 48.5

Indianapolis QB Peyton Manning has thrown for 688 yards and six TD’s in his first two games. Denver is ranked 27th in rushing offense and 22nd in run defense.

Oakland at Arizona (-4)
Over/Under: 39.5

Oakland Head Coach Tom Cable has decided to go with Bruce Gradkowski as his starting QB in this game. Arizona QB Derek Anderson has only completed 54.2 percent of his passes and has an overall rating of 66.8

Over/Under: 45 San Diego (5.5) at Seattle
Over/Under: 44.5

You do know that an 8-8 team is going to win the NFC West right? Fans in Seattle are calling for Whitehurst already after Matthew’s BAD RED ZONE game in Denver. I think it was just 1 game, we’ll see.

8:20 P.M. N.Y. Jets at Miami (-1.5)
Over/Under: 34.5

CB Derrelle Revis is out of this game with a strained left hamstring and WR Braylon Edwards knocked himself out of the starting lineup with a DUI. Miami is 2-0 but it has only scored three touchdowns and has just 270 total passing yards in those two games.

Monday, Sep. 27

8:30 P.M.Green Bay (-3) at Chicago
Over/Under: 46

Green Bay is ranked third in total points scored and seventh in points allowed through its first two games. Chicago QB Jay Cutler has already thrown for 649 yards and has five TD passes against just one interception.
