NFL Preseason Predictions- Week 4

As we head into the fourth week of the 2010 NFL Betting preseason we have now had a good look at all 32 NFL teams in action. There are a couple of teams that could probably use a few more weeks to try and correct some early season mistakes and there are a few teams that appear ready to start the regular season right now.

Let’s take a look at some of the more intriguing match ups where a quarterback’s performance in this final dress rehearsal could make all the difference on whether or not they take the stage on opening day.

Thursday September 2, 7:30 p.m. (ET)

Week 4 Preseason Carolina @ Pittsburgh (-5 ½ )
Week 4 Preseason Over/Under Line 36 ½

It is a pretty much a foregone conclusion that Matt Moore will be the starting QB in Carolina’s opener against the Giants on Sunday, September 12th. While Moore has certainly not set the world on fire, he has done enough to keep the No. 1 spot for now. Waiting in the wings is the Panthers new No. 2 guy; Jimmy Clausen. The second round pick has by no means played well enough to beat out Moore, but he does have him looking over his shoulder.

Everyone knows that Pittsburgh QB Ben Roethlisberger is out for at least the first four games on the season while he serves his NFL suspension. Right now Byron Leftwich will be the Steelers starter on opening day against Atlanta, but third year veteran Dennis Dixon has done enough to attract some attention from the fans, media, and coaching staff.

Unfortunately, a poor performance by Dixon in last Sunday night’s game against Denver hurt his chances to lobby for the starting spot.

The Pick – Carolina and UNDER

Thursday September 2, 8 p.m. (ET)

Week 4 Preseason Baltimore @ St. Louis (-3 ½ )
Week 4 Preseason Over/Under Line 37 ½

The Baltimore Ravens and their quarterback Joe Flacco already look to be in midseason form, so I would imagine that most of the starters will have the night off in this game. Their main goal is to stay has healthy as possible in anticipation of their opening day showdown with the N.Y. Jets.

St. Louis on the other hand is still trying to figure out whether or not A.J. Feeley or the No.1 overall pick in the draft, Sam Bradford will be its starter against Arizona on opening day. Feeley, who was named the starter at the beginning of training camp, has been nursing a sore thumb while Bradford is doing everything possible to steal his job.

He looked pretty good against the Patriots last Thursday night and a strong performance in this game would probably tip the scales in his favor.

The Pick- Baltimore and UNDER

Thursday September 2, 10 p.m. (ET)

Week 4 Preseason Washington @ Arizona (-4 ½ )
Week 4 Preseason Over/Under Line 36 ½

Washington’s prized offseason acquisition, QB Donovan McNabb will miss his second preseason game after tweaking an ankle against Baltimore in Week 2. His availability for the Redskins home opener against the Cowboys is listed as questionable. New Head Coach Mike Shanahan is so concerned about the situation he plans on resting backup QB Rex Grossman as well, letting either John Beck or Richard Bartel start this game.

At the start of training camp, Matt Leinart was named as Arizona’s starting quarterback, replacing the retired Kurt Warner. After two ineffective starts in his first two games, Head Coach Ken Whisenhunt decided to go with Derek Anderson as his starter for Game 3 against Chicago.

With no clear cut decision as to which QB will start in the regular season opener, you would have to believe that whichever player looks the best in this game will get the nod.

The Pick- Arizona and OVER
