Pittsburgh
The Steelers may well be playing the best football in the NFL right now. Ben Roethlisberger is back and he looks ready to lead this team once again. The defense is as strong as ever. The Steelers appear to be the team to beat in the AFC as of right now.
The Steelers offense hasn’t put up impressive numbers so far this year, but that should change with their quarterback now back in the fold. The team has capitalized on mistakes from the opponent to average 22.8 points per game so far this year. The best sign for this team has been the re-emergence of their power running game. Rashard Mendenhall leads a rushing attack that ranks ninth in the league so far this season. Mike Wallace is emerging as a star at the wide receiver position, and the offensive line is much improved. This offense should be solid this season.
The Steelers defense is probably the best in the league right now. They are absolutely shutting down the running game. Opponents are averaging only 64 yards per game on the ground against this unit. The pass defense has allowed quite a few yards, but they also have forced turnovers consistently.
A linebacker corps with names like Woodley, Harrison, Timmons, and Farrior will continue to dominate as the season progresses. This unit will make life tough on the opposing offense all year.
Miami
The Miami Dolphins have had a strange season thus far. Miami is 3-0 on the road and 0-2 at home. The two losses at home have come against the Jets and the Patriots, and this will another very tough home test.
The Dolphins offense starts with their running game. Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams combine to form one of the best running back tandems in the league. Chad Henne has done a pretty good job at the quarterback position for this team. The biggest change this year for the team is they now have a big play receiver in Brandon Marshall. Marshall had ten catches last week in their win over Green Bay, and they’ll need a big game out of him again this Sunday.
The Miami defense is a solid unit. Vontae Davis has done a nice job stepping into the cornerback spot for this team. Cameron Wake has been a beast at the outside linebacker position so far this year. He has already picked up six sacks in just five games. In order to win this game the Dolphins defense will need to stop the power running game of the Steelers. Can this defensive line stand up to the Steelers offensive front?
The Pick:
The Dolphins are a solid team, but I don’t think they are on the same level as the Pittsburgh Steelers right now. There is a chance that Pittsburgh will have a bit of a letdown here, but I think this is a poor matchup for Miami. I don’t think Henne can just air it out against Pittsburgh, but I also don’t think Miami will be able to run very well on this defense. I expect the Steelers to win this one. I like the Steelers -3 here.
