The woeful Cleveland Browns head South to take on the defending champs in a game than on paper seems like a complete mismatch. However, the Cleveland Browns are a team that, despite the score, did some good things against the incredible Pittsburgh Steelers defense last week.

Cleveland has been one of the worst teams in the NFL for years now. Bad managerial decision, poor player development and even the division that they play in has contributed to this fact. Finally last week the future of the Browns was revealed – Colt McCoy was in at quarterback and Peyton Hillis was running the ball.

Colt McCoy passed for an impressive 281 yards in his debut against Pittsburgh and figures to get the start again this week. Hillis had 89 combined yards against the baddest defense in the land. Cleveland’s passing offense currently ranks 20th and their rushing ranks 22nd.

Cleveland’s defense isn’t exactly setting the house on fire but for the first time in a long time they are at least respectable, ranking 21st against the pass and 23rd versus the run.

The New Orleans Saints have had something missing in the last few games and Chris Ivory’s performance last week reminded us of exactly what. Drew Brees and the passing game are 5th ranked, as one would have expected, but the running game, without Pierre Thomas and Reggie Bush currently rank 21st. Chris Ivory’s 158 yards last week will put the Saints right back into the elite category that they belong.

The Saints defense has been middle of the pack all season long. It is likely that their opportunistic ways will continue against a team that they are head and shoulders above.

Betting Prediction:

The Cleveland browns are 1-5 S/U in their last six games, and 2-4 ATS over that span. They are just 1-7 S/U on the road in their last eight games.

New Orleans is 20-5 S/U in their last 25 games overall and is 4-1 S/U in their last five games at home. However, the Saints are just 1-5 ATS in their last in their last six games and 1-6 ATS in their last seven games at home.

The Cleveland Browns are a better team than many give credit for. After all, they do hold a recent victory over a very tough Cincinnati team. Peyton Hillis and the running game should be able to do enough to keep this game close. The Saints will win this game but 13 ½ points is a little rich for my blood.

Trends:

NEW ORLEANS is 9-0 ATS (+9.0 Units) in non-conference games over the last 3 seasons.
NEW ORLEANS is 1-9 ATS (-8.9 Units) as a favorite of 10 or more points since 1992.
NEW ORLEANS is 17-39 ATS (-25.9 Units) in home games when playing against a team with a losing record since 1992.

Betting Pick: Cleveland browns + 13 ½
