Big 12 Conference Football Future Lines – Bodog Sportsbook
The Big 12 is another conference where the top dog is pretty much assumed…and with good reason. Although there are other good teams in the conference, no team is as complete as the Oklahoma Sooners; and with the new format of not having a championship game it might be even easier for them to make it to the BCS (most likely the Championship Game).

Their in-state rivals the Cowboys of Oklahoma State will have something to say about with this year shaping up as the biggest Bedlam ever (it seems we say that every year). Have both teams ever been ranked in the top 10 to start a season before? I am not sure.
Big 12 Conference 2011 – Odds to Win Conference
Oklahoma 4/9
Texas A&M 5/1
Texas 13/2
Oklahoma State 9/1
Missouri 14/1
Baylor 18/1
Texas Tech 20/1
Kansas State 35/1
Iowa State 100/1
Kansas 150/1
With Nebraska gone, I count 4 teams with the “stuff” to win this league in its new incarnation. With them all playing each other that is more than enough to make for a very enjoyable season.
Best Bet: Oklahoma
You an tell by the odds how much of a favourite the Sooners are to take the newly formed Big 12. This team is loaded with playmakers and might have the top QB in the nation in Landry Jones. The only weakness you can find in their offense is that the running back position is a little unproven with the departure of DeMarco Murray.
Don’t weep for Coach Stoops he has one of the top incoming freshman running backs in the nation in Brandon Williams. They shouldn’t miss a beat and will be one of the highest scoring teams in the country.
Their defense isn’t the best around but when you put up 45+ points giving up 20 still makes for an easy victory.
Best Value: Oklahoma State
There is a whole lot of optimism in Stillwater this season. The Oklahoma State Cowboys have the most prolific pass-catch combo in the nation in Brandon Weeden and Justin Blackmon and the defense should be better with more experience throughout.
They can hang offensively with every team on their schedule which means that they should be in every game this season. Still this team tends to disappoint often which is why despite the talent they have the 4th best odds to win the conference title. At 9/1 I would take that bet and enjoy the ride.
If they win at Texas A&M then it could all come down to Bedlam the last weekend of the season. Even if they lose early they might get some help and have a nice payoff if they win it.
Best Schedule: Oklahoma
With the exception of having to travel to Stillwater for the second consecutive year the Sooners have a very favourable schedule in this first year of round robin play in the Big 12. How is this for road dates: @Kansas, @Kansas State, @Baylor and @Oklahoma State.
They also have the red River Rivalry (Shootout) in Dallas but just because it is across the state line doesn’t mean their won’t be a strong crimson presence at the Cotton Bowl. Most importantly they get Mizzou and Texas A&M, their two losses from last season, at home this season.
Not a gift but very manageable for a championship calibre team.
Prediction: Oklahoma
As you can see from above there are lots of reasons to like Oklahoma to grab another Big 12 Championship…and that might just be the best reason of all. They have done it before. I don’t see Texas going 5-7 again but I don’t think they will challenge either.
That leaves Texas A&M and Oklahoma State, each of whom might only lose a game or two all season but it just won’t be enough.
With the poor odds though you are going to have to make your money someplace else.

Hard to argue with an OU pick in the big 12 this year isn’t it? Who could surprise the Sooners?
