The Ravens crushed the Broncos 30-7 in last year’s meeting between the two, and then the Broncos went on a three game losing skid missing the postseason all together.

Denver hasn’t had much luck against Baltimore, losing all four games in Mobtown.

The Ravens are off to a good start with a 3-1 record, splitting their first two and then stringing together back-to-back wins including a 17-14 win over the Steelers in Week 4, who they are tied with atop the AFC North.

QB Joe Flacco found T.J. Houshmandzadeh for a game-winning 18-yard touchdown pass with just under a minute on the clock to down their division rival.

The key to Baltimore’s success is as it always has been — its tenacious defense. Once again the Ravens’ defense ranks near the top of the NFL in just about every category including first in passing yards allowed with just 119 through its first four games, and 235 YPG overall.

That could pose a problem for a Denver offense that has built this year’s success primarily on its passing game. QB Kyle Orton is the leading passer in the NFL, as the Broncos are averaging a league-high 354.8 passing yards.

Denver moved to 2-2 on the season after edging out a 26-20 win at Tennessee on Sunday, as Orton threw for 341 yards, and two touchdowns including the game-winner. A six-yard TD pass to Correll Buckhalter in the fourth quarter to take a 23-20 lead. Matt Prater nailed a 36-yard field goal later in the quarter to seal the victory.

Receiver Brandon Lloyd, who leads the team with 25 receptions for 454 yards and a single TD, contributed 11 receptions for 115 yards in the victory. Lloyd is tied with teammate Eddie Royal (299 yards, 2 TDs) for seventh in the league in receptions.

I think the success of the passing game could be for reasons none other than the Broncos lack of a running game more than anything else, as Denver ranks 32nd with 55 YPG. Knowshon Moreno leads the attack with an anemic 111 yards on 39 attempts with a pair of scores.

If the Broncos want to win this weekend, it will be imperative that they establish some sort of semblance of a running game.

In contrast, the Ravens’ offense has been mediocre at best and has put up just over 15 points per game. It ranks 22nd with 306 YPG, and 24th in rushing with 84.

Flacco has completed 83 passes on 145 attempts for 920 yards, but had thrown just 200 yards per game with a single TD in the Ravens first two games of the season. He lit up Cleveland in his next outing, tossing a season-high 264 and three TDs. What followed was a repeat performance at Pittsburgh.

Receiver Anquan Boldin is off to a good start and has a team-high 27 receptions for 355 yards and a trio of touchdowns.

Like the Broncos, Baltimore’s run game leaves something to be desired. Leading rusher Ray Rice, who has been battling a hip injury, has just 60 carries for 230 yards, and has yet to score a touchdown. He is scheduled to play on Sunday.

He will defiantly need to be 100 percent if he wants to roll up any decent real estate against a Broncos rush defense that yielding just 101 YPG and ranks 12th.

This will be a close game, but I think Baltimore can shut down Denver’s passing threat forcing them to do battle on the ground, a place where the Ravens definitely have the advantage.
