New York Giants vs. Seattle Seahawks Preview

In a NFC match up this Sunday between the hottest team in the league and one that was embarrassed last week the Seattle Seahawks (4-3) host the New York Giants (5-2). NFL betting lines have New York as 6.5-point favorites in this game with a total of 41.5.

New York is all alone atop the tough NFC East and they have won 4 straight. On the other hand while the Seahawks are in first place in the weak NFC west they were killed last week by the Raiders losing by 30 points.

In their last games the Seahawks lost to the Raiders 33-3 and the Giants had a bye last week and in their last game they beat the Dallas Cowboys 41-35.

This season both teams are 4-3 ATS. Seattle and New York have not fared well against the spread against good teams, as the Giants are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games against teams with winning home record and the Seahawks are 2-7 ATS in their last 9 games against team with a winning record.

The Giants have lost 4 straight to the Seahawks, but if they play like they have been they will snap that losing streak. Their defense is ranked #1 in the league and even though they gave up 35 points to the Cowboys in their last win they held Dallas to only 254 yards on offense. Their D has given up the second fewest yards per game and they are tied for 3rd in the league with 24 sacks.

Seattle seems to be a much better team at home, as they have yet to lose a home game this season and Quest Field is a loud stadium where the Giants have never won. Seattle has forced 13 turnovers this season and 12 of those came at home. Turnovers may be key in this game and to finally win in the Great Northwest the Giants cannot turn the ball over. New York is tied for 3rd in the league with 19 turnovers and they had 5 in their win over Dallas. Football betting

QB Eli Manning leads the Giants and their 8th ranked passing offense and in the win over Cowboys he passed for 306 yards with 4 TD, but he also had 3 picks. In 2 games in Seattle Manning has passed for over 600 yards, but has thrown 4 picks. The WR duo in Hakeem Nicks and Steve Smith has played great and the G-Men have a good chance of racking up a lot of yards through the air against a Seattle pass defense that ranks 29th in the league and gave up 306 passing yards last week.

New York has a great rushing offense ranked 4th in the league and RB Ahmad Bradshaw ranks 4th in the league in rushing yards per game. Where the Seahawks are legit on D is defending the run ranking 10th in the league. However, they faced a good Raiders rushing attack last week and they gave up 239 yards. The season-ending knee injury to DE Red Bryant is a big one, as he is the anchor of the rushing defense. Basically, the Seahawks have to play well on D since their offense is far from a dynamic one.

Seattle had a grand total of 165 yards last week against Oakland and this season their offense ranks 25th in passing yards per game and 27th in rushing yards per game. Those rankings against the league’s top-ranked defense? Yeah, not a good match up for the Seahawks. QB Matt Hasselbeck, who is likely to start after sustaining a slight concussion last week, must play well for Seattle to win. He was sacked 8 times last season and the offensive line has to protect him against a fearsome Giants’ pass rush.

Seattle RB’s Justin Forsett and Marshawn Lynch have to get over their horrid performance in the Oakland game and pick up some yards on the ground, as Hasselbeck has shown he can’t do it all with his arm.

It will be tough for the Seahawks to move the ball against a Giants’ defense that is only giving up an average of 177.9 passing yards per game and 85.4 rushing yards per game.

Again, turnovers are a key and the Giants will not make many of them this Sunday. The Giants are simply much better than the Seahawks on both sides of the ball. New York will snap their 4-game losing streak in Seattle and win this game and they will also cover the spread.

Pick: Giants -6.5

He is anxiously waiting for the first NFL week when his beloved new-look Redskins take on the Cowboys, who is a team Jason has no love for, to say the least.
