The Saskatchewan Roughriders get their chance at redemption in the 98th Grey Cup this Sunday. On the last play of the game in last year’s Grey Cup between these same two teams, the Saskatchewan Roughrider thought they had won the game when Montreal kicker David Duval missed a 41 yards field goal with no time remaining on the clock. But a too many men call gave Duval a second chance – a chance that he converted to give the Alouettes a 28-27 victory.
The Saskatchewan Roughriders have played all season for this moment – a chance to beat the Montreal Alouettes in the biggest game in CFL Football. They have shaken a late season slump and have arrived at the Big Game after a semi-final win against the BC Lions and a Western Final win against the Calgary Stampeders.
Saskatchewan has had the best passing offense in the league all season long. Quarterback Darian Durant passed for 5542 yards this season with 25 touchdowns and an unflattering 22 picks. Andy Fantuz and Weston Dressler were both top 10 in the CFL in receiving yards and catches. Running back Wes Cates scored 15 touchdowns this season – no other RB had 9. 
Saskatchewan’s defense has been just OK this season and will certainly have their hands full with perhaps the most complete offense in the CFL.
The Montreal Alouettes are the class of Eastern Conference of the CFL. They will be making their third straight appearance in the Grey Cup, and they have represented the East in 8 of the last 11 CFL Finals.
The best quarterback to ever grace a CFL field, Anthony Calvillo, leads the Alouettes into action having passed for 334 yards and two touchdowns in their Eastern Final annihilation of the Toronto Argonauts last week. In his two games versus the Roughriders this season, Calvillo has passed for 600 yards, six touchdowns and just one interception. He and his deep set of receivers – Ben Cahoon, Jamel Richardson and Kerry Watkins will be able to match Fantuz and Dressler step for step.
The X-factor in this game just may be Avon Cobourne who ran for 163 yards last week and added 53 yards receiving. In the frigid Commonwealth Stadium, the better running team will surely have the edge.
Betting Prediction:
The season series between the Alouettes and Roughriders is tied 1-1 with Saskatchewan winning 54-51 in Week 1 and the Alouettes winning 30-26 in Week 6.
Saskatchewan is 12-8 SU and 10-10 ATS this season. They are 12-3 ATS in their last 15 games against teams with winning records and 4-0 ATS in their last four games versus the Alouettes.
The Montreal Alouettes are 13-6 SU and 9-10 ATS this season. They are 5-1 SU in their last five games versus the Roughriders and are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 November games.
Motivation certainly favors Saskatchewan in this game. Most of the Roughriders current roster experienced the agony of last year’s Grey Cup loss. Add in the fact that they have already played, and won in frigid conditions and the Roughriders look to have the edge in this game. I like the Saskatchewan Roughriders to avenge a brutal loss from last year. Karma is a bitch sometimes!
