Week 9 Fantasy Football Waiver Wire

Week 9 NFL waiver wire plus fantasy football lineup tips to help decide who to start or bench on your fantasy football team…

WAIVER WIRE WEEK 8

This is our waiver wire pick-ups column. Dave B scours the free agent pools in fantasy land for the best available talent every week. Availability, of course, depends on the league. We’re using 12 team, 15 roster spot leagues as the median, but we’ll look for roster candidates for leagues of all shapes and sizes.

After all of the weekly games are finished be sure to check our cheatsheets, a who’s hot, and who’s not report plus more in our fantasy football guide.

Another Week is over in the NFL and the Waiver Wires will be scoured once again in order to replace the skill players that are on byes in Week 9 (Buffalo, Minnesota, NY Jets, Oakland, St. Louis and Cleveland). Although the Wire might seem like slim pickins, there might be some diamond in the rough. Pay attention, and good luck in finding the one player that might lead you to the Fantasy promise land!!

QBS

Alex Smith – San Francisco – Did an OK job against a very tough Indianapolis team – enough to keep the starting job for at least a couple of games. With Michael Crabtree looking like the real deal, Vernon Davis proving to be a go to guy, and of course Frank Gore being Frank Gore, Smith has a real chance to make a splash on this talented team.

Mark Sanchez – NY Jets – Had the best game of his young career with a win in Week 8. After his bye, he plays a very beatable Jacksonville team in a game that they need to win. 265 yards and 2 tds. is nothing to sneeze at, especially against a tough Miami Defense. You could do far worse indeed.

Vince Young – Tennessee – Actually looked like an NFL QB last weekend. He used his arm and his legs and demonstrated that the Titans are a better team with him at QB. He won’t win you most weeks, but if he can use the scrambling ability to get rush yards, he could be a serviceable QB2.

RBS

Ryan Moats – Houston – 151 combined yards and 3 tds. in Week 8? Gotta be kidding me. Oh ya – it was against the Bills. Eenyhoo – if Steve Slaton can’t hold onto the ball, a desperate coach Gary Kubiak might have no choice in riding the hot hand – Moats is that hot hand. The Texans are a team that features the RB more than most, as rushers and as pass catchers. Keep an eye on Moats – he could be this years’s Steve Slaton!

Maurice Morris – Detroit – Kevin Smith aint getting it done in Detroit. Add in the fact that he is injury prone, and you have the recipe for “Backup Bonanza”. Morris has been the super sub before – he had some good years backing up the primary Running Backs in Seattle, and there is no reason to think that he cannot repeat his ways in Detroit.

LeSean McCoy – Philadelphia – This one is out of the obvious column. Westbrook almost got his head knocked off 10 or so days ago and although there is optimism that he will return soon, I believe that he will be out an extended period. McCoy can and Will be the man in Phili. And we’ve all seen what the Man in that offense can do.

Other to monitor – Leonard Weaver – Philadelphia

WRS

Steve Breaston – Arizona – Might not be available in most leagues, but if he is, take him now. He’s averaging almost 5 catches per game and around 60 yards – that’s with Anquan Boldin in the lineup. With Boldin possibly out of the lineup, those numbers will sky rocket.Sports Betting at Sportsbook.com

Michael Crabtree – San Francisco – Its time to believe folk. This kid is the real deal. His Hissy Fit Holdout is a distant memory and he’s getting WR1 type catches, yardage and targets. Crabtree is unquestionably the best Wide Receiver on the Niners, and is poised to become the leagues next superstar.

Kevin Walter – Houston – Was drafted in most leagues the dropped because of injury and some dismal outings. Healthy again, Walter should absorb some of the targets and the yardage that will be available now that all world Tight End Owen Daniels is out for the season. Someone has to step up and I think that Walter will.

Malcolm Floyd – San Diego – Has become a little bit more relevant in the San Diego Offense. With Philip Rivers throwing for nearly 300 yards per game, there is enough yardage to go around in Charger land. I’m just sayin’.

Others to monitor – Jacoby Jones – Houston : Mike Thomas – Jacksonville

TES

Joel Dreessen – Houston – Will have first crack at the starting job vacated by injured Owen Daniels that’s worth a lot. The Tight End is heavily used by the Texans Offense and if you are stuck for a bye week fill in, you could do far worse.

Kevin Boss – NY Giants – 3 catches in each of the last 2 games for Boss. He seems to have caught Eli Manning’s eyes. Manning has always utilized the Tight End position and for some reason has forgotten about it until now. Boss figures to be a bigger part of the offense going forward and if you need a plug in at the position, Boss might be your man.

Others to monitor – Fred Davis – Washington : Spencer Havner – Green Bay

DEFENSE

Carolina – 5 interceptions against the high powered Arizona Offense last week, the Panthers are finally living up to their Defensive potential. They are going to give up yards and scores, but the unit is playing opportunistic ball right now and could be a solid unit from now on. Any team with Julius Peppers will be fine.

Miami – Another team that seems to be rounding into form The Fins are playing Ball Control on Offense and creating havoc on Defense. They will give up yards and scores, but should generate turnovers, especially with games against Tampa and Carolina coming up (after New England).

LeSean McCoy will still get his fair share of snaps this week even if Westbrook is back in the lineup. Look for a two back set from here on in as McCoy is just starting to get warmed up.
