NFL Week 4 Fantasy Football Tips – Waiver Wire Week 4

This is our waiver wire pick-ups column. Dave B scours the free agent pools in fantasy land for the best available talent every week. Availability, of course, depends on the league. We’re using 12 team, 15 roster spot leagues as the median, but we’ll look for roster candidates for leagues of all shapes and sizes.

After all of the weekly games are finished be sure to check our cheatsheets, a who’s hot, and who’s not report plus more in our fantasy football guide.

Without wasting any more of your time, here is the Week 4 Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Pickup List, for the NFL games going on this week (Week 4). The waiver process is used to bolster a Fantasy team. It can be used to attain depth for a fantasy roster or to replace an injured roster player. The Waiver Wire will be scoured relentlessly this week so pay attention. Surprise Inactives, injured stars, and benched duds characterized a week full of stellar performances by unheralded players. Pick up the right guy, and he could lead you to victory next week and beyond. Here we go!

QBs

Derek Anderson – Cleveland – Looks like Eric Mangini has finally figured out what Romeo Crenell had to work with. Brady Quinn sucks and DA will take over under center for the Browns. If he can recapture his 2007 magic, he might be good for your Fantasy team.

Kyle Boller – St. Louis – Bulger – injured – big surprise!!!! Boller will take over if Bulger can’t go next week. Monitor the situation – he can’t be worse than Bulger. He might prove to be a decent bye week fill in, but if you are picking him up to start for you – I’m truly sorry!

Chad Henne – Miami – Chad Pennington’s season appears to be over for the Fins, leaving heralded Chad Henne to take over. Sounds like a downgrade, but Henne was in the mix during the preseason as the Dolphins’ starter. If his receivers can ever realize their potential, Henne could surprise.

Josh Johnson – Tampa – With a miserable outing on Sunday, the Bucs have decided to make a change at QB. Johnson is the man. The coaches liked what they saw of him in relief of Byron Leftwich (don’t know why), and the already lost season in Tampa seems to have a new QB at the sinking helm. Maybe????? – ahhh forget it – I can’t write anymore without laughing!

RB’s

Lesean McCoy – Philadelphia – Did an admirable job on Sunday for the oft injured Brian Westbrook. He did enough to earn at least a share of the carries in Phili. And with Westbrook’s history, he could be the prime ball carrier more often than not.

Glen Coffee – San Francisco – Probably will be the most added player this week. Word out of Ninersland is that Gore has a high ankle sprain, a tough injury to return from quickly. With a game against the Rams this weekend, Coffee could pay off big time for your fantasy squad.

Fred Taylor – New England – Been saying it for years – PICK A RB AND STICK WITH HIM FOR MORE THAN ONE SERIES!!! Belichek obviously heard me and he let Fred actually get into the flow of the game. Taylor has earned a start and a bulk of the carries for the Pats. If Belichek will stick with him, he might reward.

Tashard Choice – Dallas – Looking great in the absence of Marion Barber. He seems to be the backup of choice (excuse the pun) for Wade Philips. He’s getting the touches out of the backfield and he’s catching the ball out of the backfield. The Cowboys’ preseason commitment to the run looks to be coming to fruition and its much easier when you have the backfield talent that they have.Sports Betting at Sportsbook.com

Other to monitor – Jamal Charles – KC – Larry Johnson aint getting it done!

WR’s

Mike Sims-Walker – Jacksonville – He’s been on the list before – Would someone listen? He has taken over from Troy Williamson, who is out for the season, and is outplaying Torry Holt. Getting a ton of targets and making the most of them.

Bryant Johnson – Detroit – Ya, ya, I’m recommending a Lion – don’t laugh! With Calvin Johnson drawing most of the defensive attention in Detroit, Bryant can play under the radar football, and develop chemistry with an ever-improving Matt Stafford.

Pierre Garcon – Indianapolis – Looks like he has been in the offense for years. Most had touted Austin Collie to be the man to sponge all Anthony Gonzalez’s catches, but its been Garcon that has developed a rapport with Peyton. A solid WR3 at worst with WR2 potential.

Sidney Rice – Minnesota – Seems to be Brett Favre’s new down field weapon. 56 yards and a td. on Sunday makes Rice Fantasy relevant.

Others to monitor – Michael Jenkins – Atlanta – The Falcons can throw the ball and will!!

– Josh Morgan – SF – Stepping up in an otherwise unspectacular corp.

– Kelly Washington – Baltimore – 5 catches, lots of targets right now.

– Andre Caldwell – Cinci. – Better team than advertised – #2 there.

– Keenan Burton – St. Louis – poised to take over from injured Laurent Robinson.

TE’s

Vernon Davis – San Francisco – Drafted in most leagues, then dropped in many. Sunday’s 2 tds. shows that he can still get it done. He has the talent, but there are still questions about his heart. My money is that his talent will overcome.

Defense

Denver – In a weakish division, the Broncos are out to prove the doubters wrong, and so far are doing just that. Turnovers, sacks and a commitment to good fundamentals had the haters becoming lovers in Mile High.

I would look out for Clinton Portis to bounce back this week. With all the heat the Redskins have received over the last week for falling to the Lyons, I think the Skins are going to come out ready to run all over one of the worst defenses in the league in Tampa.
