I don’t think that there is anyone happier that the Fantasy season has started.

In Week 1 we certainly saw some potential Fantasy Gold while some preseason Fantasy Gold looked more like bronze.

Here is Dave B’s Week 1 Fantasy Studs and Duds!

Studs of the Week:

Cam Newton, Carolina Panthers – What a story. 418 passing yards and three total touchdowns in a loss to the Cardinals in your debut is insane and certainly worthy of Stud of the Week. Too bad he was only active in 4.1 percent of NFL.com leagues. At least some of the questions have been answered.

Steve Smith, Carolina Panthers – 178 yards and two touchdowns helped make his rookie quarterback look very good. Smith caught everything thrown his way and did something with it every single time.

Other Studs:

QBs

Drew Brees, QB, Saints – Brees completed 32-of-49 passes for 419 yards and connected on three touchdowns in the 42-34 loss on Thursday night which wasn’t his fault. He’s a Stud no doubt about it.

Aaron Rodgers – Green Bay Packers – The dude was unstoppable on Thursday night – 312 yards and three touchdowns. Rodgers is the scariest man in the NFL and fully worthy of the Stud List.

RBs

LeSean McCoy, Philadelphia Eagles – McCoy had 122 and a TD on only 15 carries and also added a receiving touchdown in Week 1. Among the few 100 yard rushers in Week 1 he was the best.

Ray Rice, Baltimore Ravens – Rice had 107 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries to go along with 42 yards and another score on just four receptions – 149 total yards – AGAINST PITTSBURGH! Stud.

Matt Forte, Chicago Bears – Forte caught five passes for 90 yards and a score while adding 68 yards on the ground – 158 total yards. He is an enormous part of the Bears offense and on Sunday was a Stud.

Mike Tolbert, San Diego Chargers – Tolbert caught two touchdown passes and ran for another on Sunday but only had 93 yards from scrimmage. Still, Tolbert seems like the go-to-guy in a high powered offense.

Honourable Mention: Cedric Benson, Cincinnati Bengals; Ben Tate, Houston Texans; Fred Jackson, Buffalo Bills

WRs

Calvin Johnson – Detroit Lions – The Lions looked very very good and Johnson was a beast. Megatron hauled in 2 touchdowns and 88 yards in a Stud performance. Stud.

Hakeem Nicks – New York Giants – There weren’t a whole lot of Giants that looked good Sunday but Nick did – that makes him a Stud. 7 catches for 122 yards makes him s Stud.

Andre Johnson – Houston Texans – What else did you expect – the man’s a total Stud. [ad-8469823]

Duds of the Week:

Ben Roethlisberger, Pittsburgh Steelers – Ben passed for 280 yards and a touchdown but was responsible for five turnovers (3 INT, 2 fumbles). Ben was a nightmare and Dud of the Week,

Chris Johnson, Tennessee Titans – Johnson had 9 carries for 24 yards, 50 total yards and no scores on just 15 touches. I was expecting a bit of rust but not that!

Other Duds:

QBs

Matt Cassel, KC Chiefs – I know that your rib hurts but completing 22 passes for 119 yards. Dud!

Sam Bradford, St. Louis Rams – Bradford only had 188 passing yards and no scores. I know that he was playing against Nnamdi Asomugha, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and Asante Samuel but we all expected a lot more. Sorry Sam – you’re a Dud.

Matt Ryan, Atlanta Falcons – No touchdown, two turnovers but 319 yards passing on Sunday. Believe it or not, for Matt Ryan, those are Dud numbers.

RBs

Rashard Mendenhall, Pittsburgh Steelers – The Steelers were out of this game totally and Mendenhall’s 46 yards on 12 carries plus a lost fumble made it a lost day for Mendenhall owners – total Dud!

LeGarrette Blount, Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Five carries for 15 yards – never targeted in the passing game makes me wanna cry. Blount was an astounding Dud!

Honourable Mention: Jamaal Charles, Kansas City Chiefs; Peyton Hillis, Cleveland Browns; Joseph Addai, Indianapolis Colts

WRs

Vincent Jackson, San Diego Chargers – Jackson finished with two receptions for 31 yards on Sunday, far from his projected numbers. Jackson had only 3 targets which is mind boggling. Jackson was close to Dud of the Week.
