CFL Power Rankings: Week 6

The action is heating up in the Canadian Football League, as this week marks a third of the regular season being finished. The Eskimos continue to control the board, as they’re still tops on the Week 6 CFL power rankings.

Here’s a look at the league’s power ratings

CFL Handicapping - Power Rankings

Edmonton Eskimos

The Eskimos remain at the top of the heap thanks to their picture-perfect 5-0 record. Edmonton squeezed by the Argonauts 26-25 last week, but a win is a win. Ricky Ray continued his dominant season, going 24-for-34 for 261 yards, two touchdowns and no interception.

The Eskies quarterback now boasts an impressive 10:1 touchdown to interception ratio.

Winnipeg Blue Bombers

The Bombers show no signs of slowing down after topping the B.C. Lions 25-20 in Week 5. Winnipeg is still getting by with a fantastic defence, which ranks first in the CFL with just 19.4 points per game allowed. The Blue Bombers were all over the field against British Columbia, racking up six sacks and forcing a fumble.

Hamilton Tiger-Cats

After a luke-warm start, the Tiger-Cats are finally delivering on the rising expectations they had coming into 2011. Hamilton earned a hard-fought 34-26 victory over the Montreal Alouettes last week, the team’s third consecutive win. The Ti-Cats are getting it done with an explosive offense, as they’ve averaged a whopping 35.3 points per game in those victories.
Montreal Alouettes

The Alouettes tumble a bit after a disappointing 34-26 loss to Hamilton last week. That’s back-to-back losses for Montreal, which showed a terrible lack of discipline against the Tiger-Cats. The Als were flagged 14 times for 121 yards. The lack of a running game was also apparent, as the team managed just 38 yards on the ground. Former Alouette and new Tiger-Cat Avon Cobourne, meanwhile, gouged Montreal for 126 yards from scrimmage. [ad-4437448]

Calgary Stampeders

Calgary is treading water at 3-2. The Stampeders picked up a win over Saskatchewan last week, beating the Roughriders 22-18. The offense has been very shaky, as the Stamps have scored the third fewest points in the CFL this season. Although Calgary didn’t put up a ton of points, there were some signs of progress. The team came through with several clutch first downs, and the offence at up the clock late in the game.

Toronto Argonauts

Despite another loss, the Argos showed some signs of life against the undefeated Eskimos last week, losing by just a point. Perhaps most importantly, the team scored a half-decent point total, losing 26-25. But while it’s not altogether surprising the offence is struggle, it’s absolutely frustrating the defence continues to be so bad; the Argos are allowing 28.4 points per game.

Saskatchewan Roughriders

The Riders dropped to 1-4 after a tight loss with Calgary last week. Saskatchewan posses the worst offence in the CFL, and it all starts at quarterback. Darian Durant was just 16-for-28 for 215 yards against Calgary, though he did factor in on both of the club’s touchdowns. Still, playoff hopes are fading fast with such a powder puff attack.

British Columbia Lions

B.C. fell to 0-5 last week with a 25-20 loss to the Blue Bombers. The Lions just can’t seem to get it right, but at least the defence is making a few big plays. British Columbia racked up four sacks and forced a pair of fumbles, so that’s something to build on.
