Although both teams currently sit in Wild Card positions in the West, their recent play has them looking anything but playoff caliber teams. The Jets have lost four straight games while giving up five goals in each while the Canucks have lost three of their last four while surrendering four goals in each of those losses.

The wheels look like they are coming off the Winnipeg Jets. They’ve allowed five goals in four straight after allowing five once in their previous 48 contests – ugly numbers indeed. They are coming off a 5-2 loss in Calgary last night and enter Tuesday’s game with absolutely zero momentum.

The Jets are the most penalized team in the NHL and their penalty kill have been absolutely awful the last two weeks. They have surrendered eight goals on the last 16 Power Play chances against – that’s not going to get it done! Vancouver’s Power Play has been dreadful the last few weeks but has a real chance to get on track Tuesday night.

[dfads params=’groups=16&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]

Offensively the Jets are a middle of the pack team – not nearly good enough to overcome the five goals against that they are surrendering each night. Andrew Ladd has four points in his last two games and Blake Wheeler has two points in his last two games but that is where the Hot List ends. Evander Kane is pointless in three games and Zach Bogosian has been held off the score sheet in six games.

Winnipeg’s goaltender hasn’t been named yet but Michael Hutchinson has really struggled and got the hook last night in Calgary – he has a GAA over 5.00 in his last three starts. Ondrej Pavelec hasn’t been much better and is 1-3-1 with a 2.79 GAA in five career matchups with Vancouver. Either way Winnipeg looks as though they will be in trouble again between the pipes.

The Vancouver Canucks are three points behind Winnipeg in the standings entering Tuesday night’s clash. Defense and goaltending has been their issue as well. The Canucks are giving up a boat load of goals and have been vulnerable on the penalty kill – allowing four goals on the last 11 chances.

Ryan Miller has struggled after an incredible streak a couple of weeks ago. He is 1-2-0 with a 2.76 GAA and .875 save percentage in his last three starts. Miller is 3-4-0 with a 2.86 GAA in four starts versus Winnipeg. He could sit in favor of Eddie Lack (3-6-2, 2.61 goals-against average, .912 save percentage) who hasn’t been seen since January 13.

Vancouver’s offense continues to struggles – they have scored one or less goals in five of their last nine games – the scored twice in a loss Sunday and were shut out by the Ducks on Friday. Daniel Sedin, Radim Vrbata, Chris Higgins and Chris Tanev each have two points in two games but there is nobody ripping it up for the Canucks right now. Captain Henrik Sedin has collected 15 points – 12 assists – over his last 17 contests – by far the hottest Canuck right now. Alex Burrows is pointless in three games and Jannik Hansen hasn’t recorded a point in four – Vancouver’s depth is a huge question mark as always as we head into Tuesday night’s game.

The power play has done nothing but gets a real chance to right the ship Tuesday against Winnipeg’s horrid penalty kill.

NHL Gambling Trends

• Over is 18-6-2 in WIN last 26 overall.
• WIN are 3-8 in their last 11 vs. Pacific.
• Under is 11-3-1 in VAN last 15 overall.
• VAN are 3-8 in their last 11 vs. Central.
• Under is 5-2-1 in VAN last 8 home games.

The Jets and the Canucks are giving up a ton of goals at the moments – I can’t see either team stopping the bleeding on Tuesday night. The Jets simply can’t keep the puck out of the back of their net and will be an especially tired bunch after playing in Calgary last night. The Canucks may be overdue for an offensive explosion Tuesday night. The play here is the Over – this game looks like a 4-3 final to me!

The Vancouver Canucks will try to end a mini-two game losing streak on Friday night and it appears they may have gotten a gift from the scheduling Gods.

Their opposition? The Buffalo Sabres who have lost 13 straight games ahead of Friday night’s affair and are 1-16-1 in their last 18 games – ugly. The biggest storyline ahead of the game however is Ryan Miller who will start against his former team – the one that he backstopped for nine years.

[dfads params=’groups=64160&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]

The Buffalo Sabres are a bad team – period. Case in point – they were thoroughly outplayed last night in Edmonton – the second worst team in the NHL. Absolutely nothing is working in Buffalo – the team is averaging a league-low 1.76 goals per game while surrendering an ugly 3.53 goals per game.

We’ll start with the defense and goaltending that has been dreadful during Buffalo’s 13 game losing streak. Thursday night’s starter Jhonas Enroth has lost eight straight contests with a 4.66 GAA while Buffalo’s other keeper Michal Neuvirth is also riding an eight game losing streak. His GAA over that span is 4.10. Translation – the Sabres have no reliable #1 that can or will keep them in games right now. The starter for Friday hasn’t been named but either way, it appears as though Buffalo is in trouble between the pipes.

[dfads params=’groups=16&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]

Buffalo’s offense isn’t likely to bail them out either on Friday night – they scored just twice against a terrible defensive team in Edmonton and are averaging just 1.76 goals per game on the year. There are some Sabres that have been OK offensively lately however – Tyler Ennis has four points in three games, Christ Stewart has four points in four games and Nikita Zadarov and Brian Gionta each have two points in their last two games.

Hey – I had to say something positive OK – there it is!

The Vancouver Canucks have been struggling lately – particularly in the offensive zone. A shutout loss Tuesday against Anaheim is proof. The team has now scored one goal or less in five of their last eight games. The power play hasn’t hit the board in the last nine games and absolutely no Canucks have stood out lately in the offensive zone.

You can bet that Vancouver will bring their best defensive effort on Friday ahead of Ryan Miller however – Miller has given the Canucks a chance to win each and every night despite the issues in the offensive zone. Miller allowed four goals on 24 shots against the Ducks – his worst effort in quite some time. He had gone 7-2-1 with a terrific 1.40 GAA prior to his current two game losing streak.

[dfads params=’groups=64161&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]

Miller will be eager to snap a personal mini-skid and to bring his best against his former team.

NHL Gambling Trends

• BUF are 9-47 in their last 56 road games.
• Under is 5-1-2 in BUF last 8 vs. Pacific.
• Over is 7-2-2 in BUF last 11 road games.
• VAN are 2-6 in their last 8 vs. Atlantic.
• Under is 18-7-1 in VAN last 26 overall.
• Home team is 11-3-1 in the last 15 meetings.

Buffalo has lost 13 straight games on the road and 13 straight games on the road – it is unlikely they snap that skid Friday. But there is ZERO value on the Moneyline ahead of this game – my play is the Spread.

I’m taking Vancouver -1 1/2 – I think they win this game 3-1.
