NCAA Heisman Watch – Take It Home, Sam

If anyone was looking for a reason to doubt Sam Bradford, then they weren’t watching their score running drubbing of Oklahoma State. The Sooners throttled their in-state rivals 61-41 and solidified Sam Bradford’s case for the Heisman. Only two candidates stand to challenge Bradford. One being a familiar face in the Heisman scene…

Tim Tebow (QB) – Florida Gators

Tebow was electric in the 45-15 beat down of the FSU Seminoles this past weekend. With 185 passing yards and four total touchdowns, Tebow added to his always impressive numbers on the year. Florida is one win away from entering the BCS Title picture despite early season stumbling, so Tebow deserves a mention. Putting up 37 touchdowns on the season (25 passing and 12 rushing) doesn’t hurt either.

If the Gators are able to topple the over achieving then Tebow gets thrust in to the spotlight alongside Bradford. Florida is getting a huge spread in the game of the week, and denting Alabama’s impeccable record would do wonders for Tebow’s Heisman campaign.

Next Game: Alabama vs. Florida -10.5

Colt McCoy (QB) – Texas Longhorns

The only reason McCoy is still in the picture is because he remains the only quarterback to engineer a win over Oklahoma in the Big 12. Of course, when the voters look back at that game, they’ll realize that the rushing attack in Texas, and not McCoy, was chiefly responsible. McCoy’s outstanding numbers stand up in the Heisman race with 3.445 passing yards and 42 total touchdowns, but McCoy has some slight stains on his record that will reveal themselves when the voters dig deep in to the details of the season.

Next Game: BYE

Sam Bradford (QB) – Oklahoma Sooners

To put it not-so-mildly, Bradford raped the Oklahoma State secondary for 370 passing yards and four touchdowns to add to his incredible numbers on the season. If Bradford is able to vanquish Chase Daniel and the Missouri Tigers this weekend, his place atop Mt. Heisman is virtually untouchable by any of the other contenders. He has yet to post a bad game this season, and has 4,080 yards and 46 passing scores on the season. In the Texas game, Bradford still put up huge numbers, which sadly gets the notice of the voters despite the loss. Could we see back-to-back sophomore winners in two college sports betting seasons? This committee of one says “hell yeah”!

Next Game: Missouri vs. Oklahoma -14
