The Yankees and Tigers continue their series on Tuesday night after a pitchers duel on Monday. New York led 1-0 for a majority of the game until Detroit got 2 in off C.C. Sabathia in the 7th inning and held on for a 2-1 victory.

[dfads params=’groups=63744&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]

The Tigers continued their hot start and now sit with the best record in the majors with 11 wins. They’ll look to continue their winning ways as the Yankees look to get back to the .500 mark on Tuesday.

New York Yankees

The Yankees got back to the .500 mark prior to their series with the Tigers with a sweep of the Tampa Rays. Now, they’ll once again have to battle back to the break-even mark as they hope to even up the series with the Tigers on Tuesday night. New York got a Mark Teixeira 3rd inning home run, but that was all the offense they could manufacture as they hit into some poor timed double plays late in the game.

The Yankees will send RH Nathan Eovaldi to the mound in hopes of grabbing a win. Eovaldi has received a no decision in both starts this season, with the Yankees losing both in the end.

In his first start, he went 5.1, allowing 8 hits and 3 runs. The game went an epic 19 innings with the Red Sox winning 6-5 in the end.

In his second start, Eovaldi went 5 and fly allowing 8 hits and 2 runs. The Yankees went on to lose to Baltimore 7-5.

In one career start against the Tigers, the right hander went 6 innings, allowing just 1 run on 6 hits in another no decision.

[dfads params=’groups=10&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]

The Yankees will hope to get back to hitting, as they were averaging 5.3 runs a game prior to Monday’s 1 run effort.

Detroit Tigers

After losing Max Scherzer in the offseason, the Tigers rotation was a big question mark coming into the season. However, the Tigers starting pitching has been filthy this year. The starting rotation is currently 9-2 with a 2.37 ERA. They’ll look for another solid performance when they send the youngers, Kyle Lobstein.

Lobstein brings a 1-0 record into the contest. Lobstein has made one start on the season and he defeated division rival Cleveland in an 8-5 decision. Lobstein went 5 and fly as well allowing 8 hits and 3 runs in the win.

Lobstein faced the Yankees once last season, going 6 innings allowing just 2 runs on 4 hits. The south paw received a no decision in the effort.

[dfads params=’groups=63745&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]

The Tigers hope the SS Jose Iglesias can continue his hot tear against the Yankees, as he’s hit .435 over a 13 game span vs New York.

MLB Baseball Trends:

  • Yankees are 2-6 in their last 8 games on grass.
  • Yankees are 6-20 in their last 26 Tuesday games.
  • Tigers are 5-1 in Lobsteins last 6 starts with the total set at 7.0-8.5.
  • Tigers are 5-2 in Lobsteins last 7 starts

Free 4* MLB Baseball Pick: Detroit -114

Stick with the hot team.

Detroit 5, New York 4

Trends say that the Tigers have success when Lobstein is on the mound and combine that with their hot streak going, the line could easily be more. Grab the Tigers as they take the first 2 games of the series against New York.

Free Picks: Milwaukee vs. Pittsburgh Gambling Lines & MLB Handicapping Preview

Brewers vs. Pirates Predictions

MLB Baseball betting action sees the Milwaukee Brewers taking on the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Cappers Picks provides free MLB baseball handicapping tips all season long.

MLB Baseball Odds

Milwaukee Brewers (2-7) vs. Pittsburgh Pirates (3-6)
Stadium: PNC Park (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania)
Time/Date: 7:05 PM ET; Friday April 17th
MLB Odds: Milwaukee Brewers +115/ Pittsburgh Pirates -125
Over/Under: 7 runs (-120 Over)
Pitching Matchup: Jimmy Nelson (1-0, 0.00 ERA) vs. Jeff Locke (1-0, 3.00)

Scoring runs seems to be a difficult task in the early going for both the Brewers and Pirates. After lighting up the scoreboard in 2014, the pair of NL Central teams look to get back to their hitting ways when they meet on Friday night. Both starters could make things tough on hitters once again as they both come in off solid 1st starts of the season.

Milwaukee Brewers

The Brewers bats have been the main reason for their despair through their first 9 games. Getting shutout twice already, along with 4 games of 2 runs or less, the Brewers need to start finding some production somewhere. They’ll attempt to that following one of those shutouts in which they only had 6 hits in.

Milwaukee will send RH Jimmy Nelson to the mound to try and stop this two game losing skid. Nelson took these Pirates on in his one and only start of the season going 7 innings allowing no runs and just 2 hits. The right hander struck out 9.

Nelson struggled down the stretch of last season losing 7 straight starts and will be taking on the Pirates for the 2nd time in his career.

Things will not be any easier for the Brewers as they are going to be without Carlos Gomez for 15 days. Gomez was sidelined with a right hand string injury and with the way the Brewers have been hitting, this could be a very costly and bad timed injury for them.

On the road this season, Milwaukee is 1-2 S.U.

Pittsburgh Pirates

Pittsburgh is in the same boat as the Brewers. Unable to hit the ball, the Pirates come in after being shutout 2 straight times to the Detroit Tigers in their series loss. The Pirates are scoring a mere 3.2 runs a game in this young season.

The Pirates can point to Andrew McCutchen and Josh Harrison as their main reason for struggling offensively.

McCutchen is hitting just .207 on the season and has gone hitless in 4 of the games played.

Josh Harrison is hitting just .194 and like McCutchen, has gone hitless in 4 of the games this season.

Pittsburgh will send left hander Jeff Locke to the mound. Locke got the win against Milwaukee in his first start of the season, going 6 strong innings, allowing 7 hits and just 2 runs.

Locke has made 8 careers starts against Milwaukee going 3-2 with a 3.86 ERA.

MLB Baseball Trends:

  • Brewers are 8-19 in their last 27 games following a loss.
  • Brewers are 2-5 in their last 7 vs. National League Central.
  • Pirates are 7-3 in their last 10 after scoring 2 runs or less in their previous game.
  • Pirates are 14-6 in their last 20 after allowing 2 runs or less in their previous game

Free 4* MLB Baseball Pick: Pittsburgh -125

The Pirates had been playing some decent ball up until these past two shutouts. They scored 5 runs in the series opener vs. Detroit, and 10 runs before that. With both teams having already met just a week ago, pitchers will certainly be able to know what the hitters don’t like. Back the Pirates here as Locke has had success in PNC Park throughout his career and should be able to stifle this Brewers lineup.

Pittsburgh 4, Milwaukee 2

Free Picks: New York vs. Washington Gambling Lines & NHL Preview

NHL Predictions: Islanders vs. Capitals

Game Two of the Eastern Conference first round playoffs see the New York Islanders taking on the Washington Capitals at the Verizon Center in Washington, District of Columbia. Cappers Picks provides free NHL handicapping tips all season long.

NHL Hockey Odds

New York Islanders (1-0) vs. Washington Capitals (0-1)
Stadium: Verizon Center (District of Columbia)
Time/Date: 7:00 PM ET; Friday April 17th
NHL Odds: New York Islanders +130/ Washington Capitals -140
Over/Under: 5.5 (+120 Over)

The Islanders showed no signs of stumbling or fear as they came out and dominated in all aspects of the game en route to a 4-1 Game 1 win over the Capitals. The Islanders will look to do something they haven’t done in over 32 years on Friday as they search for a 2-0 lead in the series. Washington will look to captain, Alexander Ovechkin, in hopes of bringing the Caps back to even in this series. Ovechkin was held scoreless throughout Game 1 and the Islanders always seem to have eyes him, not allowing him to move freely and quickly.

New York Islanders

The Islanders stumbled into the post season with multiple key losses down the stretch that forced them to give up home ice in the first round of the playoffs. They showed none of those signs in Game 1 as they took care of business and stole home ice right back from the Capitals, who stole it on the last day of the regular season.

The Islanders got contributions from just about everyone in Game 1, but the main guy was Brock Nelson. Nelson scored 2 goals and solidified the win for New York.

New York also got a goal from Josh Bailey, along with an assist.

F and leading point getting John Tavares didn’t even record a shot in Game 1. Expect him to come out firing in Game 2 on Friday as he tallied 86 points throughout the entire regular season.

G Jaroslav Halak recorded 24 saves and allowed just one to squeak by him in the first period. If he continues to play like he did in Game 1, the Islanders fortunes could be bright.

Washington Capitals

The Capitals must find a way to get more shots and continue to put pressure on Islanders’ goalie Jaroslav Halak on Friday. Putting just 25 shots on goal in Game 1, Washington will look to get Alexander Ovechkin going as they hope to head to New York with the series tied 1 game a piece.

The lone goal scorer for Washington was F Marcus Johansson. Johansson scored in the first period to even things up at 1, but the Capitals failed to put anything else on the board after. Johansson continues his impressive campaign as he has racked up 47 points on the season.

Caps goalie Braden Holtby faced 29 shots in Game 1, and allowed 3 of them to get past him. While he didn’t play bad by any means, he’ll need some help from his defense as they failed to put any traffic in front of the goal throughout the entire game.

Dating back to last season, the Capitals have scored just that one goal over their last 3 playoff games. In 2014, they had similar scoring problems as they were shutout by the other New York team, the Rangers, in the final 2 games before they were eliminated.

Expect Washington to be even more physical than in Game 1 as they cannot afford to head on the road with a 2-0 deficit.

NHL Hockey Trends:

  • Islanders are 23-9 in their last 32 vs. Metropolitan.
  • Islanders are 3-8 in their last 11 vs. a team with a winning record.
  • Capitals are 11-4 in their last 15 vs. Eastern Conference.
  • Capitals are 21-10 in their last 31 games playing on 1 days rest.

Free 4* NHL Pick: Washington -140

Lay the juice here as Washington should be incredibly prepared and focused for this one. A win and they’re right back in the series, a loss could spell a whole world of trouble for them. Expect Ovechkin to come up big in a home win for Washington.

Washington 3, New York 2

Capitals vs Islanders Odds To Win 7 Game Series: NHL FIRST ROUND SERIES PRICES BEST OF SEVEN 2-2-1-1-1

683 NEW YORK ISLANDERS +125

684 WASHINGTON CAPITALS -145

This will mark the 7th time in the history of the teams that they meet in the postseason. New York has won 5 of them, with the most recent being in 1993.

Will history repeat itself? Or will the Capitals get their revenge?

New York Islanders vs. Washington Capitals

The Washington Capitals and New York Islanders kick things off in Washington on Wednesday night. Why are they in Washington? Because on the final day of the regular season the Capitals stole home ice advantage when they jumped the Islanders in the Metropolitan Standings.

The home ice could be the most pivotal factor in this series as the home team took all the match ups between the two teams in the regular season.

Alexander Ovechkin is the main reason why the Capitals are where they are now. The captain tallied 53 goals, including 4 in the meetings with New York. Ovechkin will look to out match his counter part, John Tavares.

The Islanders’ Captain had two goals and three assists against Washington this season and racked up 86 points total.

As far as the goalies are concerned, goals could be at a premium in this matchup. Washington goalie, Branden Holtby went 41-20-10 and allowed only 2.22 goals against this season. His counterpart, Jaroslav Halak, was just as good going 38-17-4, and only allowing 2.43 goals against.

This will mark the 2nd time in 3 seasons the Islanders will be making a post season appearance. They come in with a little bit of chip on their shoulder as this is their final season in Long Island. The team will make the move to Brooklyn immediately following the conclusion of their 2015 season. The fans, coaches, and players hope that move will be put on hold until after they are hoisting up the Stanley Cup.

New York will be missing a key defender for likely the whole series. Defenseman Travis Hamonic’s injury was not given to the public, but it was made clear he would miss at least the first couple games, if not all of them.

Keeping players out of the penalty box will be a major key for New York. Capital’s captain Alexander Ovechkin tallied 25 power play goals this season. Washington also has an edge in terms of playoff experience as they’ve become regulars in the postseason.

The Islanders will also have to keep an eye on Capital’s forward Nicholas Backstrom. Backstrom scored a goal and added 5 assists against the Islanders this season.

The Pick

Both teams are physical and this could be one of the most intriguing match ups this post season. While all the games in the regular season were won by the home team, it isn’t certain with everything on the line that it will end up being like that in the playoff series.

Experience is going to be the biggest factor here. New York hasn’t made too many post season appearances over the last 10 seasons and Washington has become regulars. If New York can set the tone and steal game one, Washington could be in a lot of trouble. On the flip side of that, if Washington comes out and sends a message early, the Islanders could collapse under pressure.

Prediction: Washington in 7

A win for Houston would put the Spurs in a very tough position as far as the division title is concerned. A San Antonio win would open the door wide open for all 3 teams with just a couple games remaining on the schedule.

Houston

The Rockets are doing everything they possibly can to hold on to the 2 seed in the NBA Western Conference. 1 game up on Memphis, Houston will look to give themselves some breathing room with a win over the surging Spurs on Wednesday. Houston has won 3 straight games, and comes in following a 115-112 thrilling win over the Oklahoma City Thunder.

[dfads params=’groups=63742&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]

MVP candidate James Harden is doing just about everything possible to not only solidify is own campaign, but also to give his team the 2 seed in the West. Harden leads the NBA with 27.7 points a game this season. In the past 8 contests with the Spurs, Harden is averaging 26.8 points a game.

C Dwight Howard finally got himself back on track last game against OKC as he scored 22 points and put together possibly his best performance since returning from his injury. Howard also grabbed 8 rebounds in the win.

Houston has won 6 of the last 7 meetings with San Antonio, but lost the most previous one back on Dec. 26th 110-106.

San Antonio

Winners of 8 in a row, it’s a fair statement to say that nobody wants to face the San Antonio Spurs right now, especially in a playoff series.

[dfads params=’groups=63727&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]

The Spurs have also won 18 of their last 21 contests. During this 8 game winning streak the Spurs have put together, they are beating opponents by an average of 20.9 points a game. They are dismantling the likes of Denver, Oklahoma City, Golden State, and other playoff candidates.

The Spurs are not just scoring a lot, but they’re also dominating opponents with their lockdown defense. San Antonio is only allowing 87.6 points a game during this current streak, and opponents are shooting just 41.7 percent from the field.

With 4 games left in the regular season, two of them will be against Houston. The Spurs will more than likely have to win both contests against the Rockets in order to have any chance at the 2 seed and Southwest division title. That doesn’t seem so far fetched as they’ve been blowing past everybody in their way.

[dfads params=’groups=63741&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]

At home this season, San Antonio is 31-8 S.U. and 20-17-2 ATS.

NBA Basketball Betting Trends:

  • Rockets are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games vs. a team with a winning S.U. record.
  • Rockets are 9-4 ATS in their last 13 games following a S.U. win.
  • Spurs are 18-7-1 ATS in their last 26 home games vs. a team with a winning road record.
  • Spurs are 6-15 ATS in their last 21 vs. NBA Southwest.

Free 4* NBA Basketball Pick: Houston +6.5

6.5 is a lot to lay here, even with the hot Spurs. Houston can essentially eliminate the Spurs from the division with a win here tonight.

San Antonio 104, Houston 102

While this game will come down to the wire, grabbing the points now would be smart, as this line will probably move as game time gets closer.
